Fiat Ducato hymer 1.9d alternator

Good day everyone hope all is well during these trying times.
I have a German import 1993 Fiat,
My battery doesn't stay charged more than a week the alternator is burnt out so I basically got a charge it every so often, if I take the motorhome off for the day and leave the radio on inside lights e.t.c. battery will die within the day on it vehicle is kept turned on,
I've had the vehicle for over a year I have a problem locating a new alternator,
I don't have the OEM numbers for the part, I just have the VIN number of vehicle , I have seen alternators online but I don't know if they're compatible.

(ZFA 29000 0 0 0 326917)

Make:
Fiat
Model:
Ducato Hymer.
Year: 1993

Thanks in advance

Sounds like you may have a few problems together,
1) having to turn ignition on to listen to the radio, (you can re wire radio with a simple switch)
2) battery may be tired
3) alternator not doing its job,

Is battery ok when the radio is not used?

Check alternator for function as it may be ok,

Consider getting alternator reconditioned, saves Hassel of trying to get correct ine

Its easier to check what the problem is before swapping expensive parts to get the same result

As well as the expertise that we are fortunate to have through some of our members, it is also worth joining the Fiat forum.

https://www.fiatforum.com/

Free to join and could be useful especially as they probably have knowledge of sources for parts or specialist repair firms. There is also a site which I think is called Fiat eper which is a parts list for many fiat vehicles.

Good luck with your search for a fix.

Have you had the system checked ?
Should be running somewhere between 13.2 and 15.8 volts and amperage rising with demand with engine running.
Also, system checked for a parasitic drain when stopped?… and also battery condition under a high rate discharge test.

So many variables before you remove alternator and repair/replace, and agreed.... alternator recondition is a viable option if there is an issue.

Apologies if you’ve already had these tests done.

Thanks for the reply,
Without radio or lights e.t.c. battery goes dead within a couple of days. When I press the motorhomes previous owner said it was a problem with the alternator..
Would there be Oem number or make if I took a look under the motorhome you think. )

It might be an old battery that is near the end of its days,

I'd bring it to an auto electrician to get it checked, it will be a lot cheaper and less time consuming to get it checked first before doing anything,

What part of the country are you in?
There might be a craicer local that might have recommendations for a lad that knows his stuff

I got a new battery out of Halfords cost me 200 euro it had about the same lifespan as the previous battery that was in it, so I'm using two batteries now , one in motorhome and one charged up for when I have difficulty starting the vehicle I change to charged battery then recharge the other one pain in the arse 😀

It seems to me as if you are scratching around in the dark. You really need to get someone to check the battery, the wiring, etc. Some really good advice been given here. But it’s only good if it’s taken onboard
