Happy birthday Brian luck you are in the north of Ireland because you would have to wait another 6 years to get one down south and it's probably is means tested

Have had a bus pass for 6 years and used it 3 times, twice on the train from Portrush to Coleraine, and once since my 65th on the train from Cobh to cork. All when using the Motorhome. Bus routes and timings not very attractive from home and the car is too easy an option.

On March 6th Nigel had his 66th and he wanted a party to celebrate getting his free travel pass
We had a few local friends in for drinks and nibbles and in hindsight we are so glad we did it.
The following weekend was Graiguenamanagh, we weren’t going as my son was having his 40th party that weekend but things had so dramatically changed and “elderly” were advised not to be near grandchildren and it was cancelled. Now we are in lockdown.

Nigel did use the bus once but now avoiding public transport and walks and cycles ...within 2km.

No it wasn’t means tested and day after he got his pass he applied for the travel in NI.

SWMBO got one for her birthday in Feb, hasn't used it yet but says she will especially to go to the likes of Belfast to save on petrol and carparking fees. She has also said she is looking forward to getting the all Ireland version when she hits the next magic number.

Love the idea of "the all Ireland" pass, we over here can only use it in the country of origin, e.g. being English cannot use in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland.
Its not fair (see me stamping my feet and screaming)
Wonder if your privileges will change after Brexit is ever completed

The all Ireland bus pass was part of the good Friday agreement, so will only (in my opinion) be removed if both governments claim it is too expensive and I dare say a court case would ensue.
Curiously there is a disparity in the passes. In the north we get one at 60 which can be used only in the north. At 65 you gain the entitlement to travel all over Ireland.
I believe people in the south only qualify at 66. I assume they get reciprocal rights for the whole island.
Another good example of joined up thinking.

To qualify for a N.I. Pass you need to be permanently resident in the north for 3 months. Might be worth it if you use a lot of public transport!!

So all I have to do is come over in Billy Blue for 3 months and I can get a bus pass!!!!!!!!!!! ??????????

Nigel applied for his ROI pass about a month before his birthday , they take your photo which is on the card (like a credit card) but also given the form for NI pass to fill in which you can apply once you get ROI card , which he did and it came within a week.
I got mine nearly 2 years ago,(never used it) and your spouse can travel with you if they are under 66 down South and can travel to NI but they are not eligible once up there and going on other journeys. He thought he would be using it this Easter if we had gone to Portstewart.
I don’t know if someone is a widow if they can have someone else accompany them.
Our son has always had a disabled travel pass, and carer can travel free with him.
