We all know that France has the most roundabouts in the world, boring, so now they are livening things up with a €720,000 peanut shaped roundabout.

No consideration at all for those with nut allergies!!

The roundabout would be even tastier in winter when they have to salt it ;-)

There is a 5 road junction on the outskirts of Colchester at Clingoe Hill on the road to Clacton and Harwich, which is a large roundabout made up of 5 smaller ones.before they constructed the bypass ,it was a pantomine in the mornings when the Harwich Ferry docked and travellers from Europe tried to work out which way to go. Even the locals had a hard time before they worked it out

I think I remember the Colchester roundabout when visiting back in the 80s.
A huge central circular area with small roundabouts at various locations round it. The central area was 2 way and when you approached the small roundabout you could choose when exiting to go round the large central either clockwise or anti-clockwise until you got to the small roundabout which was your exit. I thought it was quite a good idea.

Hope the link worked as a picture explains it better. Is it still there?

The new French one is in Nozay. There is an excellent stopover there beside a lake. Stayed there a few times. Also Super U always with cheap Diesel.

There is another of those roundabouts like Colchester in Harpenden IIRC. You come down a hill and when you see it for the first time it scares you, when you're on it, it works perfectly. I think there is 7 roundabouts around a roundabout.

Roundabouts pi** me off, not really the roundabouts but the people using them. Why do people who could be classed as on the main road approaching think they have right of way and not slow down. First person on the roundabout has right of way

I don't think that's true. You should give way to the right of course. But I don't think someone who is on it first strictly has the right of way.

I used to think it too.

Also if someone is in a left turning lane at a roundabout, goes straight on and collides with you who assumed they were turning left, it's your fault.

I agree but it’s the clampets who have not even reached it come flying on when you are already there. They are supposed to slow down. Anyway I think roundabouts should be square

Square-a-bouts doesn’t have the same ring though.

Maybe better if they were rectangular, then they could be wrecked-a-bouts.
