Info from Baguette

Cobh: The contractor engaged by Irish Water has today advised that due to circumstances beyond their control, their progress along the Five Foot Way carpark has been delayed. They have therefore asked that the Camper Van parking facility be kept closed for a further 2 weeks. It will therefore not reopen until Monday 17th February.

Is it possible that the contractor isn't finished yet and the caravan belongs to him or his workers?

I received this answer this morning to my request for clarification on this caravan.

Martin,

The caravan has been put on the site illegally. Cork County Council is currently in the process of seeking a court order to have the caravan removed. Our aim is to have the caravan removed before the Irish Water works have been completed and the site becomes available to legitimate users again.
Regards,
Páraig Lynch,

If we put a camper there for one night without a ticket we'd be fined straight away,no court order needed 😠

I took this pic on 27th November.

I showed it to a garda in Cobh town the same day and he said they were already aware of it. (Hard not to be I suppose, considering the Garda station is 100metres away and in line of sight.)

The tow-hitch was sticking out into the road by a couple of feet.

Nice caravan, bad parking.

What if it was being moved to a safe storage place on a forklift and it accidentally fell off into the river and then got accidentally hit by a passing ship.
There'd be no need of a court order then.

That van was there when we sailed for Spain last November, it had been there a while then.... I mailed the council at that time.... I got this reply, hence the reason I had the contact email address.

FW: Illegal parking at Cobh Motorhome area

Dear Mr. **********,

I refer to your email in relation to the above which has been forwarded to this office for attention.

This office had been made aware of the illegal caravan yesterday afternoon, and the Council's wardens are currently working to have the caravan removed as quickly as possible.

Regards,

Páraig Lynch,
Municipal District Officer,
Cobh Municipal District,
Cork County Council

Obviously there’s a sense of urgency in having it removed? I wonder if the same was done with a Motorhome how long it would take for action?

Popped over to Cobh this morning.
The parking places are available again but the service bay is a bit restricted by the works site fence. The contractor is still on site but working in the area of the outdoor gym and playground.
The usual entrance is closed but the entrance to the cruise terminal end (at the heritage centre) is open for access.

Cobh is looking excellent with many of the cafe's and restaurants with outside tables.
The motorhome parking area has been revamped with all the large shrubs taken away and replaced with new plants and a rope fence and the new marina is also being put in place (see photos)

So come on down and enjoy the 5* facilities when next on the road.

Yes, the price is locked in in the bye-law which regulates the facility.

Yeah, seems the cousins are in town.
Matter of time before we begin loosing these valuable spots.
Disgraceful behaviour by a minority who seem to answer to no one.

Whether we like it or not the ethnic group people are referring to have a significant amount of units on the road. What I would like to know is were they ever consulted when planning Motorhome related development’s? I’m wondering is this kind of behaviour a way of putting up the two fingers to the rest of us if not. I wonder If they were allowed to be involved and understand the code of good camping behaviour would they police their own community better. I don’t know, just a thought.

There are several different law enforcement establishments in this country, I'm not quite sure which one is in charge of enforcement when this type of thing happens.

That's a big problem because they don't seem to know either. The mess was left by people that had to be within sight of one of the one of said establishments. who did nothing to stop them.
So what chance has anyone got in stopping it.
