Update on my motion to have Motorhome parking in Drogheda/South Louth. It got the full support of the Councillors and officials 😊. There are plans to put in power points etc at Clogherhead Harbour that should be in next years Rural Dev Fund, that I was unaware of as a new Councillor.

But my point is that we should also do this the easy way and make the space available as soon as possible in a cost effective way. Drogheda needs and would benefit from hugely from Motorhome tourism and we can offer so much to tourists. Watch this space!

Thanks for the heads up Ally.
Do the council and Michelle understand that electric points are not at all necessary and only add to the development costs and an ongoing maintenance commitment.
Cobh which is probably the best motorhome parking area in Ireland does not have electric points yet it brought in €20k in parking charges to the local council in 2018.
€20k @ €10 per night represents 2,000 stopover nights and at two people per mh represents 4,000 bed nights to the local economy, not including any 'fare dodgers'

It seems Cllr Michelle Hall is very aware of keeping costs down and the fact that we require very little. I have also expressed my opinion on Electric Hook ups. Michelle has a long term Motorhomer talking to her, Mary Collier, so I am sure it will go in the right direction.

I showed this thread to a councillor today from Newry and Mourne that I know well and have been talking to him about potential Aires in the area for a while. He knows most of the councillors in Louth as the two areas are next to each other and they would work on joint initiatives. He was not aware of councillor Michelle Hall but I showed him how to find her on Facebook as she posted there originally for feedback.

Hopefully the councillor in Newry and Mourne will make contact as I know he is very supportive of the Aires concept and I lent him a copy of All the Aires book in the past so he could se the different types and that EHU is not needed to keep costs and planning issues to a minimum.

I was in contact with the Louth Councillor and got the following reply today

''We have been having a lot of discussions on Motorhome parking in Co. Louth. The Council are still trying to find a suitable place in Drogheda but are fully behind the idea. I think after this summer they have come to realise the benefit of having specific parking areas for campers.

They are awaiting a funding decision for an Aire at Clogherhead pier."

She also indicated that there is all day parking at Drogheda port ( no barriers) for €3

This is all good news guys. Every little helps.
The more councils think it’s a good idea the more others will query why they are not doing something to keep up hopefully

Would that be a safe overnight stop ?
