Potential for stopover in Cork City

I was in Cork City recently and I noticed that a Centra on the South Douglas Road had a large unused car park to the right of it which would be ideal for Motorhome stopovers. It is on a well serviced bus route to the city centre too.

Has anyone every approached them about utilising this space? What’s the best and right way to go about approaching them? Is it worth the effort?

Been banging our heads against the stone wall which is Cork City Council for over four years without success.
I know that place on the South Douglas Road and it could be quite noisy at night.

If touring and wanting to visit Cork City the best option is the P+R at Black Ash during opening hours and overnight in Cobh and/or Kinsale. There is also the option of leaving the mh in Cobh and getting the train into Cork City.

Thanks Baguette. You have some valid points there and some great suggestions about the P*R and the train from Cobh.

We have a dog so either option doesn’t suit unfortunately.

You could send an email explaining your predicament and asking for a solution to:

Liam Casey, Senior Exec Parks Supt. liam_casey@corkcity.ie
Josaphine Gazley, Senior Staff Officer, Corporate & Extetnal Affairs. josephine_gazely@corkcity.ie
Damien O'Mahony, Senior Exec. Officer • Cork City Council - Tourism. damien_omahony@corkcity.ie

We've been knocking on their door for over three years and all we've got is half promises that they would provide a suitable facility.

Call to use Black Ash car park for camper vans

Are we talking of the same council that were so forward thinking with providing Cobh and Midleton Aires?
Someone told me there is a Church car park near ucc that allows overnight parking, anyone know of this?

Separate Local Authorities I'm afraid with a significant expansion of the City Council boundary very recently.

Yes, there was, but there isn't.
The project is 'finished' now but a number of the facilities which were in the original plan have not happened. Maybe they created a phase 2 for later in the century :-/

I remember the original plan for that area was very exciting.

What eventually materialised were a couple of football pitches, walking/running path and a bmx course?

I think there was a major fuffle about lack of parking for visitors also? And no access from the black ash parking area across the road?
I don't know if that has been resolved yet.

There was supposed to be a tunnel (pedestrian) connecting the two.
There was also supposed to be a footbridge connecting the park to Vernon Mount but that as probably been cancelled due to the place being burned down three years ago by vandals following decades of neglect SEE HERE
