Leisure battery

I'm a bit confused here. looking to install a new leisure battery both poles different sizes. Large for positive small for neutral.
This is the same as my previous one. Look at this pic and see if you can tell me which is plus and minus.
I would have thought the brown lead was positive and the black neutral. Also the neutral is going to a fuse.
Anyone know if this is right

Is there not a + and a - marked on the battery beside the terminals?

Can't see a picture Rob but the bigger pole is positive pole so you can only connect positive to it, yours is a German van the wire colours aren't always what you'd expect

Sorry just seen your other post. Yes there is but it's the cables that are confusing me. I thought the brown cable would have signified positive but it only fits the negative. Must be right

Having the fuse on the negative line should not matter. Just be sure that if the negative pole ties to chassis that it does so after the fuse. So negative pole connects only to the fuse. The other side of the fuse connects to chassis and loads and must be considered ground.

So heres where I am. Fitted the new leisure battery and put it on charge. I always assumed they came charged but this one wasnt at full charge when I got it. It's now showing 13.7v. It's also showing -50a underneath this reading.
Heres the problem:
I dont have 12v working : on the panel over the door its giving me a reading on battery voltages, tank capacities, temperatures etc so the power is travelling that far.
I have checked the fuses and they all look good. Am I forgetting about or missing a fuse to check?

I have 220v on ehu but theres also a continual clicking noise coming from a fuse block under the seat that stops when I disconnect the ehu and will stay clicking when I reconnect the ehu. After some time if I reconnect the ehu the clicking doesn't come back on.
Any one have a solution?

What 12 is not working?
how good is the battery earth? was there any arking when you connected it up
Have you located the relay that is clicking this may be the cause of no power, the charger may switch off or change over when the battery is full, the clicking may be the relay trying to do this.
A bad earth or short could cause the clicking and the no power, is there another relay of the same type nearby that you can swap over or any fuses around the relay as usual photos may help.

Thanks for the reply Martin.To be honest Martin, everything just seemed to stop. I first noticed it when i started the van and the step alarm activated. when i tried to retract the step fully, it wasnt working. I thought it was because the battery was shot, but when i replaced it, there was still no power. All the 12v electrics are gone, water pump, lights, fridge, cooker igniter. Ir seems strange that it all seemed to shut down and didnt reboot when i replaced the battery.The reading on the panel above the door is showing full batteries, but the hab battery has "-50a "(minus 50a) soi dont know what the f is happening. I will be going through it on saturday and checking any fuses and the relay if i can see it. Also on the electroblock there is a plug in gor all the 12v system, so i will be checking that as well.
The clicking is coming from the elektro block. Once i disconnect the ehu it stops.

Update:
Checked every fuse on the elektroblock, found one 20a fuse blown. Checked the 2a and 50a on the starter battery and found the 50a blown, which i thought was strange.
Disconnected the elektroblock(photo attached) to see if there was a glass fuse inside, but after checking with A&A CARAVAN PARTS, was advised not to open the unit, as it could do more damage. He reckons i have damaged the unit by not isolating the battery with the on/off switch on the elektroblok before disconnecting the battery.
Does anyone know, if there is any way to check the unit before i send it back for repair. If i return it and theres nothing wrong with the unit, it will cost 110 sterling including return post to have it looked at.
Once again, any advice appreciated.

I use a chap called Frank 0872426622 he's an auto electrician.He is based in Dunshaughlin but is also mobile you could give him a call and ask him about testing it for you.

The 50amp is what charges your battery and powers your fridge when driving. It's been know to blow if you jump started the vehicle or changed the batteries etc.

Have you tried by just replacing the blow fuses?

Yeah 1st thing i done. bought new fuses and replaced them. Just nothing happening in the 12v hab area. It has to be the block. everything works through that so i think i will have to get it checked.

Is there no reset button anywhere. Could be inside. Could be the reason they don’t want you to open it. If it’s knackered anyway can’t see the harm in opening it, tbh can’t see what harm you could do anyway, as long as you don’t go at it with a lump hammer

That was my reckoning as well David, but all the research i have done on this ebl suggests there isnt one. But, I also remember reading about one of the smaller blocks that has a reset button on it, so I think i will delve a little more before i return it. If nothing found, thats the end of anything i can do.
