I use Tunnel Bear , sometimes. Only when connected to a third party WiFi such as an airport or some public place. I never have exceeded the free monthly allowance. I’m not sure what the subscription charges are but could be about €15 p/m.

Using NORD at the minute, seems very good. Approx £6 per month.

Surfeasy - I had a couple of the original usb dongles that gave unlimited downloads for life, but they changed to online login accounts a while back. All users on the original setup were moved free of charge to the new setup , so there is no monthly charge ( I think )

Never gone so far as to use a paid VPN but I've used free trials of ExpressVPN and NordVPN while travelling in China.
Top tip for anyone who uses a gmail account to sign up for free trials, you can use modifiers on your gmail email address to make it different than the one you used the previous time, say for example you are joebloggs@gmail.com you can use joebloggs+whateveryouwant@gmail.com and the gmail server will ignore the +whateveryouwant and just route the mail to joebloggs@gmail.com allowing you to do all of the confirmation stuff. You can also use a full stop anywhere in the prefix and they will be ignored by the gmail server so joebloggs is the same as joe.bloggs or jo.ebloggs, etc...

Apart from security and privacy benefits, VPNs are good for getting around geo-blocked content, as in, I could set my VPN to give me a U.K. IP address, and then access BBC iPlayer. Well that used to be the case. They are managing to crack down on this now.

£6 is good. I’m out of touch with my pricing. Nordvpn will offer €6.36 p/m on a 1 year plan and €3.17 p/m on a 3 year plan. TunnelBear will do €6.99 p/m on up to 5 devices.
Tunnelbear also claim to be the only VPN to have its security independently audited. Is that better, who knows? At the end of the day you still have to put trust in your VPN provider to handle your data securely. Can you really trust anyone? That’s a question for another day I suppose.
Now that I’m switching to GoMo and decimating my mobile bill, I can justify a VPN subscription.

you’d be doing well if you had a finger in that pie. I was listening to a BBC podcast on Alipay. They’ve overtaken PayPal as the biggest online payment system.
For a green horn here , what will VPN do , what’s it purpose and is it a benefit or just another bill at the end of the day
I found another great reference about VPNs and ranking of the best VPN options to choose from. I started using a VPN (Cyberghost) when my friend lost money in her online banking account due to some scam. This is one of the things that just came up when we were researching on how to deal with that.
Bitdefender do great antivirus packages with cover for up to 10 devices and unlimited VPN for a year €79.99 at the minute. have been using it for the last 2 years with no problems.
