For all you tech savvy guys, I'm thinking of getting one of these for my Spanish trip as they seem to be good value. https://www.mymemory.ie/3-payg…-data.html What do you think ? They claim that the 12Gb data that they come with lasts for up to 12 months. Any thoughts or better suggestions ?

Would using it in Spain not be classed as roaming with a reduced data allowance,??

The 12GB only lasts for 12 months if you don't use it.

Liam, if you are with eir, you can buy a one off top up of data, 3 10, or 15 gig. Not all that expensive

I've been using them for at least the last 3 years works just as they say and I've only used it in Europe and no restrictions.

Same for me. I've also activated them for the first time, once in Spain and once in Portugal and no restrictions. They are good, never failed yet to pick up a signal.

After further hunting I've settled on this SIM for my trip. https://www.eir.ie/mobile/simonly/ As it's on a rolling 30 day contract it can be cancelled at any time so I'll just keep it for 2 or 3 months. No restrictions on usage in EU so happy days.

TBH I had been meaning to get back to this topic based on our summer trip of France, Luxembourg, Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium.
Based on our experience, France was pretty good for roaming on an Irish sim card. However the other 4 countries were a miserable experience.
My phone is a Huawei and I lodge a complaint with Huawei Ireland over the phone's performance. The phone flatten in less than 6 hours.
Their recommendations was due to poor roaming coverage, 2g/3g , battery would suffer.
After a month home, the same phone can last for 2 days with similar use.
The iPhone guys will probably want to kick my shins.
One hour of video call or movie/utube streaming is over 2GB of data on 2g/3g network.

What you need to watch for is the Free usage policy on any sim deal we had a Gifgaf sim in our Ipad we only used it when away as when at home it always connected to our home wifi. After the first week they turned it off as according to their free usage policy we'd used it more abroad than in the UK.

The fair usage policy for data is max 80Gb in any billing period. I won't come anywhere near that so no worries. :-)
