What month do they pesky mice arrive? we had a good battle with them last year.
Any time now as the wheat etc has been cut and they're looking for a new home, also look out for rats in your engine bay overnight ( it's warm) they can eat wires and plastic parts and even cause the car to be a write off as insurance won't repair damage due to disease concerns

September on I always say, the rodents are on the prowl for some nice warm shelter with a nice supply of grub.....they can really destroy vehicles and as stated, insurance will write off vehicles due to the invisible damage they can do under bonnet/dash especially when it comes to wiring. They won't take any chances with any latent damage caused by them ....keep an eye every day I say...

This thread got me worried Never really thought about mice in the MH before, but this morning I put in an ultrasonic rodent device .220v plug in which is fine as van is permanently on EHU when parked at home.

Lived in a small village near a forest in Switzerland. Had a spanking new company car, parked in underground car park. Went for a Sunday drive. After a few miles, high temperature light came on. Pulled into garage, coolant leak. Saw tiny teeth marks on radiator hose. It was a kind of pine marten called locally a ' Mardar ' . Around 2,000 euro damage to pipes and cables. They like to eat the rubber. No guarantee that the night I got the car back, it would not happen again. Insurance there would cover the first time, after that, you are on your own. Some people had a mini electric shock grid under their cars. It was expensive and not guaranteed to work. Luckily it never came back. But it damaged 3 cars in the same night in the car park.

Those Pine Martins are a disaster! They kill all sorts here, I was told recently by a campsite owner it's illegal to shoot them but how can that be? They are not indigenous to here.

They are helping to get rid of the Grey Squirrel (another unwanted import )

They were native were hunted to extinction for their fur and have been reintroduced in recent years to control the grey squirrel population. Anywhere there are Pine Martens in the country the grey squirrel are pretty much gone and the red squirrels are thriving.

We have beavers reintroduced in Cornwall.
Amazing what they can do.
Been reintroduced in America in certain states alo. Some farmers are not happy but they have been proven to prevent flodding and are great for the environment.
If they were there originally, they were there for a reason is my view.

Back to the mice.
Under our mh/campers there are a number of vents. Under the gas locker, water heater and so on. Their function is to dump leaking gas. However to guard from rodents, these vents have been fitted with mesh which over time either rots or falls off. With older wagons, this mesh should be checked routinely to avoid visitors.

I never even thought about mice getting in..the other half would not go near it if she thought a mouse could get in. Looks like another job to add to the list.

Miniature stun grenades, I've been experimenting with various methods, haven't got the paperwork finished for the patent yet. I haven't had time to test it in the van yet so if anyone wants to try it out let me know how you get on, please document the method used
Method 1. get a reasonable good quality round Baloon, inflate it, with gas, don't start off too big, certainly no bigger than the size of a soccer ball.
This can be done if you have a BBQ adaptor or just take off the defuser plate of the gas hob ( the black bit that the blue flame comes out of ) then light a night light candle in something like a bean tin ( don't be tempted to use a Jamjar ) it took the vet 3 hrs to remove the bits after the first try, Place the balloon on top of the can. MOST important to walk briskly away, a few feet, meters or behind the shed/ Van.
For the Patent reasons and " others " if doing it in the van for the first time, you need to get witnesses some like the Police / Garda or maybe the Fire Brigade.
Be mindful of health and safety, Keep all who may nor be able to walk away Briskly at a safe distance as the percussion effect may interfere with their hearing. or clothe or hair /skin.
