howdy...
I'm undertaking a small project in work to reduce our electricity wastage out of hours (will post results here for the craic). I'd like to buy timer plugs for all the sockets but am conscious some of the sockets are quite heavily loaded by having surge protected 8 way adapters.

Am I creating an additional fire risk by putting a timer plug on the socket and plugging the adapter into that? it's going to be a simple plug timer, €5 or so.

If the timers have a CE marking on the back, then they'll handle whatever current they are rated for. Most of the ones I've seen are 13-16A (~3000 watts)

If it's just for office equipment Printers monitors & PC's then you should be fine.

You could go a step further and pick up a 3 pin power meter socket if you wanted to see just how much power you were using on each 8 way adapter (or device)? You could get all nerdy with the office crew telling them how much power was being used in standby (for example).

If you got one of those for each socket you'd end up paying more than you would of used in leccy

My. View would be to use it for a 24 hr period and identify the high draw culprits! It's going to be the laptops I think... The lights are 26w, which can be replaced by 9w led, but that would only be the difference of 350 euro or so..

When we first took over the Pub, our electric bill was £900 a month. I got it down to £400 the following month by changing to LEDs and switching stuff off at night that wasn't needed.

It hought the leds would have had a bigger impact on the bill but its a disgrace at the moment! And there's only a couple of hundred on night usage, so there's high draw items that are being used.. Next step is to check the microwaves, toasters and kettle!
