I live not too far away and was told this morning that it was a Citroen Berlingo Van with mattress in the back.

I think I know the spot where they got caught out. We wild-camped there in tents a few years ago. I remember the tide came up and flooded the access road behind us. Good job we had the bikes and tents up high! Judging by the news report, it sounds like they parked on the beach! (yikes)

I also remember a very cranky farmer nearby that didn't like people camping there overnight!
