Just watched it last night.
Well worth a watch and should make everyone think about not just Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc but other “free” products that people just freely sign up to using such as gmail etc.
Remember, If the product is free, you are the product!

Most folk are blindly walking into the hands of manipulative companies, governments, individuals, bankers, and the weapon these people are using is social media. It is absolutely staggering that people do not research and understand the pitfalls of what they are doing on-line, the dangers and the damage they are causing predominantly to themselves so companies and the powers that be can use their data and these profiteers care not a jot about the carnage.
My son works for a very big Irish company, his girlfriend works for the same company in HR, she heads up a team who’s job it is to vet employees, graduates and people who apply for jobs. Some CV’s arrive with them, the people may be well educated and more than meet the criteria for employment and they never pass the first hurdle..... why?.. because of their social media activity and online history, it’s amazing what this team brings up on people and basically puts these prospective employees on the scrap heap before they ever get going, and they can never change that history.... you’ve already agreed to ‘give your data’ to them. The biggest source of concerns and history is Facebook and Twitter.

4 or 5 years ago I went to the local primary school for a parent association meeting with the Principal on data management.
During his address, he likened social media to the back page on a newspaper.
Once it's published, someone, somewhere will always have a copy.

Social media, sure you cannot even drive down the road today without seeing someone walking and totally oblivious to the surroundings.
Phones today are only media devices.

FB is a profit driven business. Nothing less or more.
They have created wealth by harvesting people information and using the data collected to sell opportunity to other businesses.
Governments are jumping a top of each other to tax the same profit.

Watched it on Netflix. It was not all that surprising when I see every day how targeted adverts are and how integrated things are. Example is google maps, which I heavily rely on: I notice it keeps track of hotels I stayed before, what date I stayed, upcoming concert tickets etc. One day I went to Halfords in Navan, I was thinking about electric bike for the van. The bikes are upstairs in this store, and they had a lot of them. Had a Chat with the guy about which is lightest, most km etc. walked out to car, advert came up on Facebook for electric bikes ... this Happens often, and generally I actually find it useful. But the gate is open and horse has long Bolted. Re; Cambridge and Facebook... and the Brexit vote plus the US election. All they are doing is what campaigns always did ... but they are doing it faster, smarter; and on a huge scale, with the capability to target messaging directly to voters sitting on the fence. Unfortunately also with fake news. Ally approach to delete social media is probably correct one if you can do it. I find it really good for making connections that are really helpful... I like taking photos at rock concerts.... sometimes I can make a connection that gets my camera in to concert etc..... I wonder if google is tracking our camper van overnight location stops etc

I’m in two minds about it all. On the one hand you have this company called Cambridge Analytica. They used propaganda and Facebook to win the Trump election and Brexit. They are the reason why we will quite likely see a hard border reintroduced on this Island.
On the other hand, meh!
