no camping signs on both sides of the triangle now at the harbor. Normally, we stay down on the pier anyway, but it seemed a bit lonely and dark there last night, so we stayed in Car Park in the town center. There is a camping area in Westport house in the summer, but it’s a bit of a walk to the bars / restaurants. It’s a great pity that they clamped down on the campers (at least by sign) at the Harbour. We give the shops, restaurants and hotel a lot of business there.
Westport might be after getting infected with the Galway city virus 🦠
You have to realize that the parking space could take 4 American or 12 Oriental / Italian tourists and they are preferable to thoes Itinerant types in their vans.
Hi hoping to go to Westport next weekend. Can you still park past triangle beside recycling area. Hoping there are a few vans there and not too quiet. Have parked previously behind hotel westport but they charged us €25 for the privilege ^^

You can still park down at the pier, near recycling. I don’t mind it there, but wife never too happy, worried van will end up in sea etc. I walked from the town into the grounds of Westport House this morning, it’s much to far from that campsite to town. We always tell in the local shops that we are in the camper, most ask where are you staying, and they are all very appreciative of the business. I notice on the main streets around the town, there is now disc parking. You need to buy disc in newsagents etc. Town was fairly busy last night. In Hy Breasal Achill Sound now. Fairly wild and wet weather, strong gusts. Shopkeepers in Achill told me that every winter here it’s getting much quieter and summers less busy. We seem to be very welcome in Achill and we could support them more. If the weather is right, there is no nicer place

That's a great spot. We stayed there for New Year's and had a few pints in McLoughlin's bar and in the hotel later on. The locals, as you say, are very welcoming and friendly.
Stayed on a couple of trips with no hassle ,only for one night and down by the Heritage /recycling and to visit the town have managed to get in the town centre car park.
Any restrictions on overnight parking in that car park?
