What would be the best route to make this journey without doing the ring of Kerry,

Out the N22 towards Cork and turn right onto the R569 otherwise known as the Healy Rae highway into Kenmare.

The road between Killarney and Molls Gap is closed for emergency repairs at the moment so there may be more traffic than normal going through Kilgarvan.

Road condition is excelllent, it's like a billiard table. It goes through Kilgarvan, the home of the Healy Rae's hence the great road condition.

what about the Kerry Way pub between Killarney and Clonkeen where you turn onto the R569 for Kenmare, it would be between 1. 1/4 or 1, 1/2 hrs to Eyeries

So I was thinking of trying a road less travelled if heading toward Sneem in the next week. I was looking at going from Kilorglin to Sneem via the Ballaghbeama Gap. It looks like a beautiful route but could be a scary ride. Has anyone done this route in a motorhome?

Seem to Moll's Gap R568 is a good road compared with the Sneem to Kenmore N70 which is definitely a real squeaky bum route, very narrow in lots of places with abundant potholes and blind bends due to high hedges.
I would always choose the N71/R568 option even though it's a few km's longer.

Pat...We stopped for a night there last summer, plenty of vans parked up with no issues, good spot and only a 5 minute walk into town.

Another interesting drive down in that part of the country is the road from Coomhola Bridge, near Ballylickly to Kilgarvan. I did it a few years ago in a Dethleffs Globetrotter with over cab bunk. Just hope you don't meet a tractor or motorbike! You might want to check out the tunnel on Google earth here. https://www.google.ie/maps/@51…312!8i6656 Good luck. :-)
