When do you put your fridge cover thingys on? is there a certain temperature you should fit these?

Or do you judge it by the first "Brrrrrr" that comes out of your mouth.

I know it is said that as big a grill as possible in hot conditions and a smaller grill is required in colder conditions. I am aware that some people use covers to close part of the grill in winter but I don't.

I thought it was more to do with cutting down on a draught than the fridge performance. As I have never really noticed a draught in winter I just don't bother.

No time for a draught in our van in winter as Johneen keeps the temperature so high that it is probable able to hold back and cold coming in the grills.

I would be happy to hear if I am wrong.

I thought they were to stop the fridge freezing up in cold weather.

I had covers in the old van but none came with the new one and I was told when I enquired that they were not needed. Same with the spare wheel, I think it is cost saving. I only fitted the covers when the van was idle to keep the winter flies out.

Good idea, I hear people fit them when washing the van with a hose/jet wash as well.

You have no spare wheel? you know what's worse? I don't know whether I have or not - away to check :lol:

None of the new ones have as far as I know. What I did was buy a spare tyre and I bring that when I go abroad. I pack it with gear I don't often use so it doesn't waste too much space. That way if I get a bad (write off) puncture I don't have to wait a few days while they order and get a replacement camping car rated tyre. I carry a puncture repair kit for the ordinary punctures which I normally do in situ. Thankfully I have ever had only one in the old van and that was in the UK in 2008. Fingers crossed.
