Replace FloGas/Calor gas bottle in Europe

OK folks, cannot sleep due to the following Q:

Looking to spend one full month traveling to France, Spain and Portugal this summer. In my self converted Sprinter I have a special sealed compartment for only one 11kg gas bottle. Yellow FloGas. I will start the travel with a full one but I'm afraid it will not last for all period (from previous experiences). Will be used mainly for fridge but also for cooker and BBQ connected to external point. To save gas I will use my 3 way fridge on 12V when traveling (having a split charging system), on EHU when camp but most of the time will camp wild.
No space to take a second bottle. Zapping internet found Spain has a same clip-on system as Irish system (and Norway) but have no idea if in Spain they accept to replace a Irish bottle with a Spanish one.

So is someone who made this replacement in Spain? Subsequent Q: If the answer is Yes, can I replace the Spain one once back here in Ireland?

Much appreciated any useful information

Just feck the Irish one out and get a replacement and when you get home change over to Propane the Guys In Kiltipper road will give you propane for one, the price of a refill no bottle charge

Is not a different gas connection system in France? Probably I need to buy also a new gas regulator to fit to France bottle. As I cannot accommodate 2 bottles in my van I need to throw the Irish one

France use the same Propane we do, bring one with you, but never throw away the reg you may need it in Spain

I wouldn't bbq as this is a big gas waster and you should get your trip on your 11 kg bottle I've done several 5 week trips on 1 bottle of gas no problem

I'd agree with Dave and BBQ with coals and in Spain you may find they have outdoor kitchens. You see them in lots of picnic areas, with up to 5/6 fireplace's. we always gather up some dry wood and let it burn down to grey and use it to cook over.

I don’t know wether this helps as I am not sure if the UK/NI Calor regulators are the same as the ones in the south, but,

https://gasproducts.co.uk/gas-…aptor.html

This fitting will go on a Calor regulator assuming it is not wall mounted, with the other end screwing onto an Intermarche butane gas bottle. The intermarche is the same size as a Calor bottle and is cheap to hire. You need to look at the intermarche bottle neck for the label as to wether butane or propane as they are both beige in colour. They have the added advantage of being found widely all over France and parts of Spain and Portugal. I carried one for several years, but never had to resort to it before getting refillables on my current van.

It was a common work around in the past as evidenced in this sticky on auto sleeperownersforum

http://www.autosleeper-ownersf…as+adaptor

I also read of people starting their trip with a small Calor bottle and swopping to the local bottle, using only the Calor to bridge the gap until a replacement can be found. Presumably a bit of space could be found to carry a 4.5kg Calor inside the van.

Hope this helps,

Davy
