Reversing Camera recommendation

Hi everyone
This is my first post as I am a new (nearly ) campervan owner. I will be picking up my camper in a few days. To help me transition to driving a camper I would like to install a reversing camera. The current owner of the camper I am buying tells me that its wired for a reversing camera as there was one in it when he bought it 4 years ago. I could see the holder for the camera still attached to the inside of the back window.
Can ye please recommend a good reversing camera to install.

Thanks
Noreen

Hi Noreen.
There are quite a few different types of camera systems on the market.
The biggest difference between them all is the shape and size of the connection plugs on the cable that runs between the camera and the monitor.
If you could take a photo of the cable ends with a pencil end beside, folks here would be better able to advise you.
Of course, I am assuming because the camera bracket is present, the cable is present also

My tuppence worth.

Mount if fairly high up and pointing down. If you position it, say, knee height then you get a sort of two dimensional, rather than three dimensional view and distances to that bumper/wall/bollard are hard to judge.

Hard wire it and get a cheap kit offa Fleabay etc. 7" monitor etc about £25.

When you fit a system practise with it. Set a couple of cones or a plastic toy and then check your positioning.

Think about all new. Then connections and wire gauge/conductivity etc. will be compatible.

Go for two cheap camera and screen combos off eBay. One for looking straight down and one already built into the number plate holder for looking straight back to help reversing and to act as a rear view mirror. May as well the two in at the same time. I have two separate screen to the side of my dash and knock off the downward facing one when driving. The wiring for the number plate one can be cable ties along the bottom of the van and bring it up through the engine bay area.

Because the camera on the van was not working when I got it, I have replaced it with a twin cameras mounted on the rear roof section above the doors, with a single screen with two selections, one is down with a view of the tow ball and the other is facing back so if I wanted to view a trailer. ideal for looking back for obstructions and the down-facing one allows me to reverse really close and stop over drains as I have a rear grey wast dump valve, I cut off the old cable plugins as they would not match up and used the cable to pull in the new cable.
