More fridge problems

Hi all

I have a Dometic fridge with an automatic select switch for 12v, 240v or gas. I'm camping in France at the minute and all has been working well until I need to use the fridge on gas. The automatic selector works fine and selects gas at the appropriate time but within a couple of hours it goes off and doesn't restart. The pilot light is lighting and the fridge is cooling but for some reason its cutting off at some point. I have tried putting the selector switch at gas only but exactly the same thing happens.

Any thoughts

Mal

Mal, my brothers did the same in his caravan and I ripped my hair out with it........ took me ages but it was the switch on the front ... the off-240v-12v-gas switch. The switch has multiple functions, one of which is switching the flame sensor on and off via a pair of wires switching the thermocouple. The switch was no longer available to buy but I added a simple rocker switch to the front panel that he switches on when on gas and it’s been fine since........ I’ll try and get a picture and post it here.
If you remove the panel at top of the door, 2 screws and remove the knobs you can draw out the multifunction switch that has about 8, maybe 10 wires on it.... it is the 2 black wires at the back of the switch going across to the centre....... if you remove them (spades) and bridge them then you’ve effectively bypassed the switch and it will run on gas. I simply used the new rocker switch to emulate the original switch function. Sounds complicated, but it isn’t really.

**EDITED**
Switch in red was intermittent and faulty on gas....... I added the little rocker switch (shown green) to switch on when using gas...... works perfect.

Mal my thinking it has to have something to do with the flame.
Is it possible the thermocouple end is not in the gas flow ( close enough to the flame ).
Think about this
when the fridge fires up the flame will be high and touching the thermocouple end, but when the fridge comes up to the set temperature the flame drops down to standby position and is no longer making sufficient contact, so cools down and switched off the gas ??
Try setting the fridge to say no 3 ( time the cut out ) then set it to full 5/6 time the cut out again .
I have just read JJF post and he could have the answer.
