Looks like I need 2 front tyres size 225 / 75 / R16 CP. I'm based in Comber and any advice on where best to go for them would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Might be worth calling with Mark Morrow, Morrow Tyres near Kilmood. He can order in most makes and is good to deal with. Probably best to price a few on Kwik fit or Modern tyres to have a price to work to.

A point to note, is when asking for quotes for tyres, is to get the proper load ratings for your wagon referenced in the quote.
The same tyre size could have up to 6 different load ratings depending on which type of vehicle is being fitted.
Obviously the higher the load ratings, the more money involved.
I am not sure if incorrect tyre load rates are a test failure in ROI yet.
Another thing to watch for with budget tyre suppliers, is sometimes the tyres maybe seasonal tyres. In other words, the tyres would be suitable for a hot country, not a temperate climate like ours.

You say your existing tyres are size 225 / 75 / R16 CP.
The only direct replacement for those are Michelin Agilas Camper and Continental Vanco Camper. Those tyres are specifically for motorhomes and have special construction features, expect to pay in the region of €190 - €210 each.
There is, of course, a wide selection of regular commercial vehicle tyres for a lot less but remember you only get what you pay for.

Getting the van ready for the summer season and a long trip away. I'm considering changing they tyres on the van (Ducato x230 based).

Any recommendations for a good tyre. I see the Michelin Agilis Camping getting good reviews.

Another thing to remember is that campervan/mh tyres must have steel stem valves fitted to handle the higher pressures.
I believe that there has been an issue with alloy rims. There has been a few posts in the past about alloy rims and leaking stem valves.

I have CP tyres and run the rears at 5.5 Bar (80 p.s.i.), my wheels are alloys and valves are chrome bolt in LIKE THESE and I've never had any pressure loss.
THIS TYPE is a definite no-no.

One of the tyres on my van is an original 2007 contenental Vanco camper and I have been assured by several tyre fitters and my own mechanic that it's fine

@baguette how did you know that was the valve you needed I'm pretty sure I'm using the no no one's

SEE HERE, I knew Tubeless rubber snap-in valves were definitely below the minimum spec needed for CP tyres at their regulation 80 p.s.i.
Tubeless snap-in valves for high-pressure applications would cover the 80 p.s.i. requirement
For absolute sureness, on the recommendation of a tyre fitter who knows what he's talking about, I went for High-pressure metal clamp-in valves. It's that type fitted by FIAT as EO on their steel wheels.

I replaced my old Michelin’s with the new Agilis Camping. They give good grip on snow and grass. Don’t think they are going to last as long as the old Michelin’s

I dropped into my local tyre fitter and he recommended normal "C" tyres from Hifly (think it was the Super 2000). These seems to be budget tyres but as they had the proper ratings he felt it should do the job. He had his own motorhome parked out front.

Has anyone fitted the Continental Vanco Camper tyres? Where did you get them and how much?

Looking online to order and have fitted is working out at about €210 each

Unusual alright. The tyres on the 1996 Ducato are listed as 215/70 R15 while on my motorhome are 235/65 R16 so guessing someone before changed the wheel size maybe for different gearing or load rating.

While on the subject of tyres, what's so special about camper tyres ? I use mine all through the year and have always had light truck tyres fitted. Should I start to get worried ?

Looking at ePer the wheel size depends on the chassis for 1994 Ducatos onwards. Q10/Q14 vans had R15 while Q18 has R16. I think Q18 is the maxi chassis which if my van is rated for 3500kgs I'd suspect is the correct tyre size.

I could always put 225's on it and in fact the 225 comes in a 225/75 116R which might have a higher rating than the 113/115R's on it now.

Would mean not using a CP tyre. Although 121/120 are 10PR so the sidewall strength is probably equilavent to the CP's @ 8PR.

In a turn of events...... I checked the spare wheel and it's 215/75 R16 113/111R so a little different to the mounted wheels of 235/65 R16 115/113R.

Curious one that. When I bought the van it has was plated for 3850kgs while the log book showed 3500kgs. Of course the seller never informed me of that and naive of me not to check the plate at the time. I had awful trouble getting it rectified with the Dept. of Transport as the CVRT picked it up and the when the change of ownership went through the new log book had 3850kgs. Previous owner played dumb.

Anyways, knowing the spare is a 215/75, I'll go with either a 215/75 or 225/75 for the other 4.

The spare might be what was fitted before the weight upgrade in some upgrades you have to put different tyres on to cope with the extra weight whats fitted now might be whats reqd for it's current rating I'd make sure that fitting the spares size isn't illegal for its weight rating now

If I go with a non-CP tyre I could change all 5 perhaps (thinking a Hifly All Transit 225/75 121/120) as they are cheaper. The VancoCamper is twice the price.

Mine was originally 215/75 and plated at 3850. The C.O.C. shows tyre sizes of either 215 or 225 when renewing I went for 225 as they have a higher weight rating. A side effect is the the speedometer lost it over reading and now within about 2km/h at 100 km/h.

I also changed to 225/75x15 because of more rubber on the road gives better handling and braking. I was aware that the 225 is a little larger in circumference but found out that on all the speed displays, which there are the entrances to many villages and towns on the continent ,I was spot on. This probably as Baguette says due to the manufacturer setting the speedo to suit both sizes. I did leave a 215 on the spare as this more than capable of that task and am well pleased. So I now have 3, 215/75x15 michelin agilis camping with 5,/4.5mm tread looking for a new home

I've seen them mentioned on a few forums now. Tyreleader has them listed 3 times but for different prices from €113 to €135. Can really tell the difference between the listings.

Used to use Hankook on trailers and they preformed very well. Mich was better for the units as the Hankooks gave a harder ride but were good value for money. This was twenty years ago and everything was mostly on springs not like today were its all on air. If I were to go out today to buy tyres I would have no problem fitting Hankook.
