Seeing as our camper doesn't fit in the workshop, We need to improvise so we're going to make up a temporary shelter...

Got the timber frame made up today.

Next - to cover it with something that'll be cheap and last 6-12 months...







I had planned to use 1200gauge "builders film" until I found out yesterday it no longer comes in opaque. Black only... pity. I want something that lets maximum light in... Corrugated roofing or clear corriboard maybe?

suggestions?

Thanks Ally, is corriboard cheap? I've only seen it in small pieces in places like B&Q and it was kinda expensibe for a 2ft x 4ft piece...

i'd need a couple of 8x4's...

Yeah it's quite cheap and can be got in 8x4 sheets, not sure where though, we used to get it of a local sign makers but he has closed down now.

How about putting up a few 4" steel uprights and put a roof over it looks like u could do it in front of the second garage door to keep it from the house, Then pop some tin on the roof. comes up second hand quite regular ( coloured stuff) 75p to £1 per foot normally so works out reasonable enough. Should keep the weather of it and stip the roof going black and green algie

As luck would have it.... I got a call from an old buddy today, who by pure fluke, just finished building a polytunnel. :-)
It turns out he has some plastic sheeting left over that he doesn't need... 8-)
And he owes me a couple of favours. 8-) 8-)

Its nice to get a break once in a while.

Robbie, thats a great idea and could be phase 2 if I need to beef up this assembly! thanks!

Yup always great to get a break :-) I worry about anything flapping around in the wind even a slight constant movement can destroy a finished surface. Started to make a port myself to keep all the crap off the roof during the winter and also stop the sun fading things in the brighter weather

Thats a good point. I'll look at keeping the frame a bit away from the sides of the camper a somehow... thanks.

Better off leaving a gap to prevent condensation build up as well. I've often thought of building something similar but never got round to to. Looking forest to seeing pics if the finished product.

I'll put up a few pics later on today :up: .

You're absolutely right about condensation... I have the frames covered in plastic and secured in place with a 2inch gap between the camper and frames.
My intention was to seal the 2in gap with loose strips of flexible neoprene (attached between the camper and frame) which would act like a bellows... keeping the rain out but allowing the camper to move independant from the shelter during windy days. However, over the weekend I noticed a little condensation on the inside surface of the plastic sheeting. If I were to seal the shelter completely I'd eventually have a big problem with condensation, so I'm just going to leave the 2 inch gap all round for ventilation.
I'm very happy with the result. Yesterday we had some gusty winds with a bit of rain and it faired well, keeping the weather off and I was quite comfortable with full access to the warmth and light of my workshop :-)
I'll see how it goes for now, I may need to add some weatherstripping if it lets in a lot of rain but for now, its all good.

The only remaing thing to do is to stick up a 4ft fluorecent light on each side for evening work.

Ideally I'd like to have a substantial shelter like Robbie just built, but our funds are focussed 100% on the actual camper refurb for now... We'll build something more substantial around the back of the shed next year if everything works out.

The total spend for the shelter was about €8... :-)

The next step is to start gutting the cab and see just how bad the rust is... :o
