Picked up my MH and Got this

It's a great big solar pannel on the roof, but is it working is the thing, as i've never worked with these before.

I feel it is somehow draining and not charging, as it's meant to do. and does the draw from the solar panel seem too great for a cloudy Co Armagh day like today? @ 37.8v at highest?

If anyone could tell me about these screens, i'd be most greatful.

The battery is new platinum GEL leisure battery @ 75ah (it's what the seller fitted)

A solar panel is essentially a current source. Not a voltage source like a battery. So it will provide roughly the same voltage over a wide range of light levels. So the 37 volts doesn’t tell much other than all your cells are working. It is what current is coming off it that matters, e.g 0.5 amps on a dull winters day, 8 amps on a bright summers day etc.

The important screen is the third one which is showing a battery voltage of 12.3 volts and a charging current of 0.0amps.

This suggests that your leisure battery is half discharged, however there is no charging current even though the solar panel is providing 37volts.

Have you a multimeter?

I’ll dig out a manual for the display for you.

Thanks for that, I had a feeling that it wasn't being charged by the solar unit. Could it be the fact it's cloudy or should there be something/anything going into the battery from it even with clouds?

Also, anyone know of someone who deals with these things?

Even in the current weather conditions you should get some charge from the solar panel. The charge voltage should be of the order of 14 volts based on the state of charge of your battery as shown in your photos.

The controller is correctly set up for your 75Ah GEL battery (set at 80Ah which is the closest setting)

I assume you don’t have an electrical test meter.

Suggest you try the following one at a time in the following sequence.

1. Disconnect the data cable between the MPPT controller and the display (the flat cable connected at the most right hand side of the controller). Leave it disconnected for 1 minute, then reconnect.

2. Wait until it gets dark, then disconnect, on the MPPT controller, one of the cables to the solar panel (either of the two cables on the left). Leave it disconnected for 1 minute, then reconnect.

See what happens tomorrow in day light.

The setup you have is very similar to mine which was supplied and fitted by LTS in Magheralin. Talk to Simon.

I think the MPPT controller is a Tracer 1210RN so you can find a manual for it on the web.
