Does anyone know what the leisure battery should be registering at rest in the MH. Mine seem to be about 12.1v which I thought would be low

I can charge them up to nearly 13v but they are not holding. They go down in about a day to 12.1. I can’t find a drain in the system so it’s maybe time to bite the bullet and get new.

Thanks Davy. David you know how much it hurts to put my hand in my pocket but it looks that you are right. It seems no time since I put the last ones in, just can’t find the receipt

Just found this. I didn’t realise there were different classes of Leisure Batteries. I have checked mine and they are Class C. That is probably the reason for them not lasting

Category A is for batteries with a higher storage capacity for people who frequently use their touring caravan or motorhome away from an electrical hook-up:

• Category B batteries are aimed at those who frequently use sites with hook-up facilities, but require a greater battery capacity to operate devices such as motor movers:

• Category C batteries are for users that require a lower capacity battery to cover basic operation of their habitation equipment for short periods away from an electrical hook-up:

It's a bloody minefield, Tommy S.
There are so many different types of batteries, and as you pointed out, different classes within each type and that's before the brand selection.
Most places will want to sell you a battery that is sitting on their self, instead of one that is more suitable for your needs.
2years ago, we had to replace the engine battery and leisure battery, because the previous owner/ dealer had thrown in crap batteries, category C. Both were knackered after 18 months.
At the time, I dropped the mh into the local auto sparks, as I believed that it had charging issues.
After a bit of discussion and thinking, I made a choice for replacement batteries.
The auto sparks had concerns about supplying new leisure batteries because in his words " they are not clearly marked regarding category usage, unless I was willing to spent a small fortune."
In the end I fitted AGM gel eco start batteries, a 75 AH for the engine battery and 2x 110 AH for leisure batteries for €500.
2 years on, they are holding reasonably good, considering that we have well flatten them at times and the mh has been off the road twice for months, each time.
Happy shopping, Tommy S.

For sound advice on all things battery (and solar and control panels) visit aandncaravanservices.co.uk website. They don’t sell batteries, but have amassed a huge knowledge base on them.

Lots of really interesting articles and a clear recommendation of Varta powerframe batteries for habitation. They reckon they are the best value when price and longevity are taken into consideration.

There's loads of crap sold a 'leisure batteries'.
The only type that are truly fit to be used as 'house' batteries are those described as semi traction or traction, such batteries are designed to withstand a significant of cycles of deep discharge.
Many 'leisure' and dual purpose (starter & leisure) batteries will be killed off in a fairly short time if subjected to repeated deep discharge use, and are often sold described as Deep Cycle batteries

For example Halfords have a range of three 'leisure' batteries the top of the range class A SEE HERE boasts 400 cycles on the label, the figure, in the absence of the D.O.D. (Depth Of Discharge) means nothing.
A proper example of what performance a battery really has can be seen HERE where Monbat gives the full specification and quote the cycles and the D.O.D to which the number of cycles relates.

Spoke with a guy at leisure batteries in Downpatrick. He seemed to know his stuff. Told me about a 140AH battery that had a 700 cycle for £140. As usual I listened but didn’t take in the make. Sounds like the battery for me but will leave it until I really need it. I am very seldom off grid more than 2 days
