Gearbox Issues

Long story short. when we bought the van... we knew there was gearbox issues. problem being the the selector for 3rd to 4th was in need of replacement. At the time it worked out in our favour as we got a good deal.., thing is they have turned out to be like hens teeth. tried the country from top to bottom and cant get either the selector or even a full gearbox. (note: there is one advertised on eBay but he clearly doesn't know what hes selling because its a selector for 1st and 2nd, listed wrong) Ive actually run up a phone bill the length of my arm trying people at this point.

on our way home today the Van has now got its self jammed in second gear.... talk about a long trip home,. im at my wits end.

anyone got some solid info on some whos a specialist at this sort of thing I tried a couple places in dublin last year that build gearboxes from the ground up but they told me because of the age id no hope. ps, ive honestly rang every breaker in this country looking for the parts.

Surely parts for these vans can still be got!!!!!!!

I take it that it is a 5 speed, the fifth gear is a spur added on to the old four speed box and can be changed without taking the box out. It is the same box in Fiat,Peugeot and Citroen vans. JJF knows a lot more than me. I would have a trawl through the breakers Trainors of Dungannon would be one

Do not loose heart, there will be a breaker out there who will be able to assist you or a gearbox builder who can repair your own.
There are many older motorhomes on the road having been repaired, good luck and I hope you get on the road again soon.👍

Looking at the year of reg I would go on to the Talbot Motorhome Owners Club and as this is only badge difference you see what you can learn there. Remember that all motorhomes started out as vans so any gearbox up to about 2006 will do the job

Call Carnowen Country vehicles on 074-9146252 ....... they were breaking a Peugeot boxer of that vintage some time ago.
They’re based in Donegal.

logging on to www.findapart.ie and put in a parts request might be worth a shot, it came up trumps for me on a couple occasions

You might find looking at another type of van might have the same gearbox as yours ie my fiat ducato has a Iveco engine with Ford parts in the gearbox I’ve just. Bought a wash motor which came from a Citroen for 1/4 the price of a fiat one exact same motor ,so you my find that the gear box will also be in other makes of vans worth getting the part number of the gearbox and checking it out good luck 👍
