They maybe can read but how many would have taken heed of it!!

At least they have made an attempt at some form of alternative Motorhome parking as a pilot and they are willing to engage with myself and Davy to develop more locations in then council area. The easy option would have been to put up the signs, see them ignored and then went for the barriers and left it at that.

The final set of barriers were being installed at the Downs Road car park today.
As reported previously, the barriers are now in place at Glen River car park.
There is shared parking at Castle Island car park, best to arrive after 5pm when the daily use is nearly over, otherwise take a chance. If you wish to be fairly sure of day time parking then try the Rock pool car park at the south end of the town. 100 metres or so south of the Glen River Park on the A2 central promenade (towards Kilkeel).
Perhaps an admin could remove these from the App and add the Rock Pool car park.

Thanks Ally, on thinking about it, I suppose small vans (Mazda Bongo or similar) might be able to slip under and I suppose no signage will be erected prohibiting usage, perhaps modified entry might be more relevant. Any thoughts?

Once height barriers are reported I delete the poi. Are they 2.1 metres?
I think best just to remove.
I think that’s best. If you had POIs with height barriers you wouldn’t be able to see the map for red dots. Any car park can be a POI for a small camper van in addition to those on the app.

Please park at the south end to avoid being directly in the sight line of homes. This location is only 100 m from the Glen River, so not a bad substitute.
I don’t think there are plans for barriers at Bloody Bridge as it is used by school minibuses. Like town car parks it can be very busy by day, so arrive after tea and park with overhang on seaward side of car park as bays on the landward side are just car sized.

Does anyone know if you can park overnight after the air show next Saturday in the dedicated Motorhome Upper Donard Carpark overflow area? I’d like to stay overnight instead of rushing off before the traffic starts and do some touring in the area on the Sunday. Any idea @Davy ?

Don’t know, Gavin especially since I don’t read the local papers. I will try calling my contact in NMD in the morning.
Davy
@Davy, could you also check if it will be open on the Friday night. We have a race in Donald Friday evening and the chance of some refreshments afterwards. We would stay the night if we could and enjoy some of the air show on Saturday. #HillandDale

Sorry Mark&wendy the site will only open on Saturday morning as they are concerned about boy racers and antisocial behaviour on Friday when they would not have stewards on duty. I would suggest it might suit you better to park at the Rock pool car park on Friday, assuming lots of others have the same idea.
Gavin as you can see there will be overnight parking at Donard Park. I have done a new topic to explain and give the widest exposure.

Thanks Davy, I will have to move up or down the coast and stay in Annalong or Ardglass then. I would think the rock pool and Castle lark will be busy on the Saturday night. I found an article online from 2017 where a councillor was suggesting using the upper Donard park for motorhomes on a more permanent basis once the barriers went in. Looks like the fear of anti social behaviour from non motorhomes is putting paid to that idea.

I just read you other post @Davy . So it looks like I can stay over on the Saturday night. I must have misread the first time. I was pretty sure it was possible in previous years.
