............ and all that malarky.

I got a renewal quote from Adrian Flux, I told them to cancel it as having to let them know every time I went over the border was madness.

They went and found a company that could do an Island policy for here that gave you a full 12 months cover without the need for a green card. Unfortunately the quote, although the new company matched it, was too expensive so I turned it down, but they are going to shop around and get back to me.

So, it can be done!

I have 4 vehicles with them so I am not insured if I cross the border in any of them without telling them? I’ll have to have a chat with them myself...

I'm with dolmen and checked out the green card situation before our Easter trip to England. I was given the option of being emailed the document to print at home with no charge or to have one posted out at a charge of €25. Not sure if they offer cover in NI but maybe useful information for any ROI folk

I got a decent quote with good breakdown Europe wide cover, key cover and entitlement to drive any other vehicle, which I don't have with my car policy so I took it out. It includes the island endorsement.

Happy enough.

Stewart's sent me out a green card to cover the remainder of my policy at no cost. I have a Hobby/Transit and I get breakdown cover Europe wide when I get it serviced in my local Ford garage.

When i asked for a quote they told me they are not accepting any new customers from NI, some are saying that has changed now, but I have not tried.

I'm with Dolmen, renewed my cover last week, green card arrived along with my documents but the expiry date was the day before my renewal started, emailed them about it and they said they would send me out a valid one as I had just renewed,no apology for the mistake, incidentally the green card start date was the 28 march the original brexit date .

When I went to Spain last year I asked Stuarts about the green card and they said I wouldn't really need one but just in case they'd email me one. I printed it off an hour later, no charge.

I’m with Stuart’s and they never mentioned the green card to me and I’m certainly not asking.

Same here Email to me, the little problem is you have to print it on green paper with no margins ,has to fill the whole page, front and back.

Am I wrong in thinking that we are not needing a green card at the moment?

The green card is only after "B" day ?

Yes...That's my understanding also.

I applied for mine as we were going to Ally's shindig which coincided with the scheduled brexit date which never happened in the end....

Taken from AA site...

WHEN WILL I KNOW FOR SURE IF GREEN CARDS ARE REQUIRED?
A Green Card will only be required if a ‘No Deal’ Brexit takes place. The EU and the UK are currently engaged in discussions about the final nature of the Brexit arrangements. If an agreement is reached, then Green Cards will not be needed.

Likewise, if the date of Brexit is extended, Green Cards will not be required before the revised date. The current expected date for Brexit is October 31st 2019

I disagree with that. If my insurance company tells me I need a green card, then I need a green card :) - if they tell me I need to let them know before I cross the border then I need to let them know.

It gives them an excuse not pay out.

Thankfully I no longer need to worry about any such trivial matters when crossing the border :)

I do need to let them know if I go into the rest of Europe as per normal.

I’m guessing it changes from company to company. Dolmen is as Panda says. Unless there is a no deal brexit, no green card required. Never had to notify them crossing borders within Europe. They told me, if anything changes on that, you will be notified. That’ll do me

Within the EU, the insurance certificate has equivalence to a green card AFAIK

So it appears there are 2 sides to this Green Card debacle.....If you are from the ROI you dont need a green card as it currently stands. If you are from NI Insurance companies say you do.......Sorted :-)

We were booked to be in France over the 29th March so I checked with my insurer LV, they said green card would be required if there was a no deal Brexit and they could email it to me for no charge.

I also checked in the post office about international driving licences , I was told that if I was driving through France to get to Spain , then I needed two international driving licences. What a load of B@llocks !! Whose idea was this ???

Paul is reading out to me restrictions now imposed on his renewal with Kerr's if he so decides to a accept it.

A point worth considering, without a green card, or going over (his now reduced European cover) his insurance would be reduced to minimum legal cover.
