What size genny do I need to drive a 700watt microwave oven ??????

Any one got one they want to sell or any one know where they are good value ??????

you will need an inverter type like the honda ones and probably a 2kw one as the startup on the microwave will be 2-3times the power rating

2500 watt quality Inverter. Start your engine when using it, switch engine off again when not.

I have been himming and hawing over a Honda generator for the camper, just as a backup, but very hard to justify the cost, for how often you would use it. Both comments above are spot on. People won’t be happy if you run a generator beside them, a large inverter would be a good option. I have a 1500 watt one does hair dryer and toaster, don’t have a microwave, as has been stated above needs quite a high starting current

Must say Id never thought of an inverter, what kind of batteries would you need for that kind of inverter ??
It makes perfect sense to run the engine for the few mins the micro would be on, cheers Ally

I like my Dometic/Waeco inverter. Just make sure it's good quality, either wire it to your engine batteries or leisure. Run for 30 seconds, switch on inverter - use microwave, switch off Microwave - leave engine running for another 60 seconds, then switch of engine, it works for us

Bit of a touchy subject generators. I have a Traveller 2500 built in with a 15 litre petrol tank. It has really only been used for drying the missus hair. I have had built in ones for over 20 years and only been approached twice. Once for the noise in the afternoon while charging the batteries and once with a gas Onan one for the smell it produced when used.

A 700 Watt microwave, running for 5 minutes on full power would consume about 5Ah of your battery capacity. Easily recovered with solar power, or as Ally said, run your engine when using the inverter and you won’t even see the battery capacity go down.

Had a Honda i20, probably used it twice...... sold it September last year.
Another vote for inverter, solar and run engine if required.

Looks more and more like the 2500 watt inverter is the way to go, the Dometic/Waeco seem to be quite expensive any other brands worth a look at, and before you say it "you get what you pay for" any leads would be much appreciated

I don't know enough to say whether a microwave could be destroyed by a non pure sinewave.
