Agm batteries

Has anyone changed from agm batteries to lead acid I have 2 x agm batteries which need to be replaced after 2 yrs and 9 months but are stupid money and I would like to use 2 x varta lfd 90 batteries but the manual for the ebl 220 electroblock charger says not to do this, there is a switch to change the charging voltages, any thoughts welcome

Ive read some of his stuff before Davy hes very good but i didnt know you could you could e-mail him Thanks , I got the tough sh1t guarantee when I asked in Donaghys Pat ,Ive been reading up on AGM batteries they arent as good as their made out to be but their fitted inside vans as they dont give off charging gas ( ( (our old friend Health & safety strikes again )

Wet batteries can be vented through the floor with a 6mm tube to vent any gasses Dave,

Why not drop an.email to the battery manufacturer asking where you stand,

A 4 year warranty is a 4 year warranty after all,

I also looked at changing to something other than AGM when my battery started to fail last year. In the end I decided that as the vans electrics were set up for AGM, it would be safer to stay with the same type. Whilst it was possible to change the setting on the charger, I couldnt find similar information on the solar panel and alternater. I also didn't want to have to put a vent into the battery box, which is under the Lounge seating.

The standard cab battery on late model (2015)Ducato is a free acid battery vented through a small hole in the plastic battery tub.
I am very careful with leaving batteries hooked up all the time, you need an intelligent charger to do that safely with an algorithm suited to AGM.
Electroblock usually have a 2amp charge for the leisure cells with no cut out once they reach full charge.
I have a gel cell leisure batt which i think is primarily because of vented gas during charging not for any performance advantages.
Solar controllers need to be able to be configurable for the different batteries they will be hooked up to AGM,Gel, FLA etc the wrong setting can adversely affect lifetimes and it’s usually a lot cheaper to get a better controller than continually buying batteries.

Ive just checked starter battery and its a lead acid that looks like its been there some time ( and giving no trouble ) now Im wondering how the charger charged both types of battery ,its also OK to return to lead acid leisure batteries so Im getting the 2 x LFD 90 Vartas . Later I will look at getting Solar

Good choice, those Vartas seem to be one of the best value for money versus lifespan batteries on the market.

You may need to upgrade the electroblok charger if you are fitting double cells, make sure the cables joining them are exactly the same length.
One long and one shorter will cause problems as well over time.

There was 2 batteries fitted but one went down so I removed it just using the other temporarily, I reprogramed the electroblock for this and will reset it when I get the 2 new ones, whatever happened to the good old day's when you just put in a battery and forgot about it

Slightly off the topic but a possible cause to Eire bus problem.
Eirebus mentioned in a different post that his mh had a trailer socket that is no longer used.
Our mh has a 13 pin trailer socket which contains a constant live pin and an ignition live.
Over the course of the last few weeks, I have noticed that both engine and leisure batteries are not holding a full charge after a few days.
This evening I hitched the trailer to the mh and the trailer rear lights lit up like a xmas tree.
My 13 pin rear socket is full of muck and water.
This must be the short that is draining my batteries down.
