Mileage

Just pulled in for the night near Romagnieu in France. We got off the Boat in Cherbourg at 1200 midday and stopped 1130pm. Just checked the mileage 560, it’s not bad with one stop for fuel and another for tea. One of the toll machines was looking €118 for 267 miles Class 4. Had a chat with the operator and got charged €55 for Class 2. I prefer to do the big drives and spend more time on site. We have only about another 70 miles to go so big sleep and up early

Great going, averaging over 50 miles per hour.
Nice touch about negotiating the tolls.
Enjoy the snow.

Yes she is a bit of a saint. She has been better since we got sat nav, no one to argue with. The van did 21mpg which I’m quite happy with and we were only charged Class 3 once. I am supposed to pay lorry rates but get away most of the time with Class 2. As for thinking about you Sprinter, I ll be too busy sliding down the slopes and finding places to store the wine

What arguments can you make for a lower toll class?

Is it that you are a Motorhome or a compact Motorhome or non-commercial vehicle?

Thanks.

I just keep telling them that it is a motorhome. If they just bring it down to Class 3 I don’t argue and pay. It’s the fact that the motorhome has 3 axles and is 4500kg. It’s only when they see the 3rd axle I have problems. And of course I’m as nice as pie.

I was stung last year when my charm didn’t work. The lady at the other end of the speaker wouldn’t budge and charged me 90 euros Class 4. If it works most of the time I’m happy

Class 4 is more than two axles and over 3.5t and over 3m high.
Heavy two axle units can usually get class 2 if they don't look like over 3,5t, particularly if it's an uprated 3.5t version.
An overcab Luton could result in getting caught for class 3 but Je suis un camping-car, classe deux s'il vous plait usually gets class 2
