Can you please voice your Opposition to the Harbour Board , Office , or council in Galway to revoke the Motor Home parking signs . There is major pressure on them to reverse this because loss of revenue and tourists visiting city by motorhomes
Please have your say

I sent am email to Galway city council only to be told it's got nothing to do with them. Contact the Galway Harbour Company.

Quote:

"Dear Kevin,

The area referred to around the Docks are no part of the public road and are under the control of the Galway Harbour Company.

The enforcement of parking in the area, including the pay and display parking and restrictions on camper / motorhome parking is not under the remit of Galway City Council.

Kind Regards,

"

Email sent to CEO of Port of Galway on 08/02/19 setting out our disappointment at the loss of the facility and requesting the reason why such a decision was taken.

No reply yet :(

I have phoned the Harbour Co on 4th Feb and they have confirmed that parking of campers /motorhomes is banned. Apparently they have 4 legal cases at the moment and new co has decided they are not worth the trouble. Might in the future provide motorhome parking but no plans yet. Contact no is 091561874 option 3 . Might do no harm if more people phoned.

Did you ask by any chance what sort of legal cases was he talking about?
Are they claim's from or against Motorhomes.

2 from motorhome owners for damage.
He would not give any further information. He did say he was aware it was a valuable facility for motorhome owners.

A very unfortunate situation for us who use the facility.
Insurance claims are out of control for many years now, so maybe the next time an elective official crosses your path, highlight this to them.
Personally, I reckon that false claims should have costs mitigated to them.

Hillwalkers had the same problem with Hillwalkers claiming off landowners and then complaining they can't walk the hills 😩

Considering that MH insurance is a comprehensive policy surely and damage suffered would be a claim on the policy. If one's car is parked in the parking area and it is damaged the claim would not be against the provider of the parking place. Are not such places always used at own risk?, I've never heard of anybody claiming from a carpark operator or owner for any damage caused to vehicles.
Next time my car gets 'trollied' in a Tesco car park should I claim against Tesco.

Isn't that the point why are the Harbour bord even entertaining any sort of claim.
I hope they ( the Harbour Board )are also informing the motorhome insurers that their client is making a claim.

Disappointing. I will now have to give them more money in the form of a hotel reservation or make a stand and miss an annual weekend away :-(

Exactly their intentions propagated by vested interests.
I will blankly refuse to visit Galway henceforth, if they cannot welcome me as a motorhome tourist willing to spend my money in their town then I’ll go elsewhere, there is plenty of other places, likewise with Bundoran in Donegal, another town that discourages us........ isn’t it great that both places are well served with a bypass that we can use. Enough said.

I've just sent this to 25 contacts I have in Galway City Council, staff & councillors and copied to Galway Bay FM

Galway City is not getting good press and comment on forums SEE HERE. Why does Galway not follow the example of other cities and provide for motorhome parking? SEE HERE how Cobh is rated 7.8 out of 10 by 50 reviewers in one of Europe's leading online guides.
It's an absolute disgrace that there will be no motorhome parking place for those who are touring in motorhomes and wish to attend a couple of days in the 2020 European Capital of Culture

believe it or not Galway Harbour company has space for 15 to 20 mh's and are missing out on a nice little earner, for no real outlay as such,

Ya, I know, but they are closed for half the year and I don't want a camping pitch at €40 I just want a parking place for €10.

Great interview. Would be excellent if our case could be highlighted in more local media outlets. If we could give a more positive image to the public and councils of our community then barriers may come down. Maybe we should do something on a charitable side to increase our profile. Collection or events and make a donation to selected charity on an annual basis.
