As far as I know there is one of the hotels will let you use their carpark.
I will try to find out which one. When do you need it for?

There is a DOE car park in Bishop Street oposite the court house, 54.994367,-7.324851, which is inside the walls. I used it for the car last year when I was staying at the Tower Hotel for the weekend. It wasnt manned on a Sunday! It is also very private as you have the walls on two sides of it.

Apart from that the only other carpark that you could possibly use would be Sainsbury's 55.009877,-7.316746. I have always found parking to be a problem in Derry/Londonderry especially city side.

Mark, was the hotel you were thinking of Da Vinci'son the Culmore Road

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll report back here once we've made the trip.

This would be another place that could use an 'aire' especially with the up & coming 'City of Culture' event

Had a rant at Tourist office and Ilex (Regeneration Co.) today about the provision of safe overnight parking in the City for Motorhomes, and the potential benefits to the City of such a facility.
Please as many as possible contact them to add weight to the interest in this.

Aire de Service Derry/Londonderry

 ·
Posted: 20.11.2012  ·  #18
Derry City Council realising that motorhomes are mobile hotel rooms and as they want to maximise the number of visitors to the city next year are planning to open an Aire de Service for motorhomes. I am surprised the tourist office did not know the Council was planning to open an Aire as they had made an announcement some time ago. So instead of ringing the tourist office I would suggest you ring the Council for more information or you could contact Gerry Doherty of Donaghey Motorhomes whom I understand is a member of the Committee which is advising the Council on the establishment of a Motorhome Stopover.

Stayed in Derry week before last, we stayed behind the White Horse Hotel. We rang the tourist office a week or so before we travelled & where told we may be allowed to stay in the coach park behind their office but that this was at the discretion of the Foyleside Centre car park. When I arrived we had to use an intercom to gain entry to the car park, but we were allowed in & also allowed to stay for the day. I called into the tourist office & spoke to a lady & she told me they are planning a caravan park/camper site on the far side of the Foyle just beside the Peace Bridge. She said it was planned to keep it open after the 2013 celebrations. Here's hoping!! :D :D

Campsite meeting

Londonderry residents fear city council camp site plans

Derry City Council has been setting out proposals for a campsite beside St Columb's Park to accommodate visitors to the city during 2013.

A public information session was held at St Columb's Park House on Wednesday.

Local residents from areas such as Browning Drive and the Limavady Road were there to put their concerns directly to council officials.

If the site, which would cost £290,000, gets the planning green light, it could be open as soon as next May.

But some residents say they would have serious reservations.

One said: "Our worries are the impact on the traffic.

"At the moment the Limavady Road is absolutely chaotic.

"The Peace Bridge is fantastic but the parking on Browning Drive is chaos.
Chaos

"I can't understand why the council would want to bring caravans and campers into the city.

"They should be on the outskirts of the city and bus people in, I don't think a residential area is the place to build a caravan and camping park."

Another said: "Our only concern is traffic getting out from Browning Drive. It is a nightmare at the moment.

"Traffic has increased ten fold since the Peace Bridge went in, at least they should provide some traffic lights immediately."

Colin Kennedy from Derry City Council said he hoped they were able to reassurance residents.

"The houses are significantly far away from the site.

"The site does bound the park and it does bound Ebrington, so in terms of residential proximity it is actually quite some distance away.

"It is important that we take on board the concerns that we have heard from residents."

Thank you for keeping us informed.

This is more information than we are getting from the people who are supposedly lobbying on the behalf of motorhome users..

This was just on the news, the residents ain't to happy. Although I think their concerns are mostly unfounded, they seem to expect a noisy environment from teenage campers instead of Motorhomers and Caravanners.

making it for caravans will cause the hassle, as its effectively a campsite.

That's what they are proposing a campsite to the tune of £300,000

Seems Caravan site was mentioned more than a site for Motorhomers. We needed a Motorhome person on there telling them how little facilities we need and how little room we take up as opposed to caravanners.
