I would be curious to know myself Rob. The car park is pay and display with barriers. The only sure place I can think of in that area is Westport Quay. Sorry I can’t be more help.

There is a campsite not far from the carpark,
I don't have the name or seasonal opening times. But some one will know

There are a few spots he could look at,
As mentioned Old Head Pier.
Lecanvey Pier 53°46'59.8"N 9°41'24.7"W ( 53.783631 -9.690282 ) the lane might be a bit narrow for a wide Van.
There is a small riverside carpark in Louisburg at the end of the street on the left before you go over the bridge about 10 spaces with grass to the rear ( 53.762408 - 9.809514 ) nice little village with pubs, shop, food.

As in Westport House? Yeah I know about that one. I figured you meant one at Croagh Patrick. No worries

There is a pub beside Croagh Patrick car park called Campbells and there is usually a camper or 2 parked across the road from it in the 'hard shoulder'...its not really a hard shoulder. check it out on google maps and you will see cars parked along the road....if you dont want road noise then Lecanvey pier is the next best place for peace and quiet.

Have parked on the ‘hard shoulder’ near Campbell’s a few times to have lunch at restaurants. Never stayed overnight. Westport Quay might be the best option. Could stay there the night before, drive early and park at the hard shoulder near the reek. Do the climb, have a rest in the van when you come down, and then overnight again at the quay, have overnighted in the Westport town car park (station road I think), when the town is quiet. It gets busy quick enough during the day though, An day it’s mostly a bit hilly / uneven. Sprinter, did you ever overnight in that Louisburgh car park, I noticed it before and wondered if it’s an option. Beautiful Wesport, we go often, but there is a lot of talk of on street parking charges, also for the quay area

What about Murrisk Pier? I was "climbing" the Croagh a few years ago and I was approached by a local fundraiser who was trying to raise funds for the amenities there. I asked about the height barrier and I seem to remember him saying that Murrisk pier might be a suitable spot for a camper van.

Never been there but according to google it's only a 20 minute walk to the bottom of the climb.

Well on street view, Bertra strand looks great. Just to the west of Murrisk Pier and a lot more spaces

sootyrex.
No I've only parked there while picking up some supplies from the Butchers.
I'm usually on the way to Clare Island, so we sometimes stay at the Triangle Westport Quay, if we are down the day before. Or Roonagh quay if we travel over in the evenings and then get the first ferry. We did say that next time we will stop at the Riverside carpark and get a few pints.

In relation to Bertra....lots of car park space but also a height barrier....although we have overnighted tucked away in a corner on the bend just outside the height barrier....not completely ideal but did the trick!

That’s a pity. Didn’t see a height barrier in Street view. Not surprised
