Help needed

I've been helping local representatives in a bid to have an Aire provided in the town. Having spoken to Council rep's recently they have given the go ahead for two bays initially with electric/fresh water supplies. Having told them there was no real need for electric I have been asked to obtain quotes for supply of one card operated supply point. Anyone knowledge of suppliers??. I can only find details of French companies.

The card operating electric pillars are very common in the marina/ boating game.

Daffysparks is an electrician. He might know trade supplier of such.
He will be along later.

The provision of an EHU is not a requirement at a motorhome parking area.

Genuine motorhome based tourists generally only stay for a night or three. The normal permission is 48 hours max and this is usually sufficient to explore what the town has to offer after which the person carries on their tour or goes home.
Such behaviour means that the house (leisure) battery(s) are sufficient for all needs and are recharged by the engine as the tour progresses and sometimes this is supplemented by solar.
The provision of an EHU serves only to facilitate those who want to stay for longer periods which reduces parking space turnover and availability for new arrivals. The provision of EHU's also adds considerably to the capital cost of providing the parking area and ongoing maintenance costs.

The provision of cassette and grey water emptying facilities and a tap for fresh water, plus properly marked parking bays is all that is required, Cobh is a testament to this.

BTW GMAC, where are you based and what town has the interest in providing a motorhome parking area

As stated above EHU is totally unnecessary. The council will never recover the cost of purchase and installation not to mention ongoing maintenance. Steer them away from EHU and concentrate on grey and black waste. Good luck.

You could contact Galway Harbour Commissioners they have them but looks like they have decided not to use them anymore.
Might get them to take away for free

Fully agree.
And a sign stating where trash/rubbish can be disposed would be useful....
our biggest issue while touring Ireland is trash disposal.

While I do agree with all the above, to give the man the info he requires, here’s the following;
Trade electric group,, ROI
Kellihers electrical, north and Southern Ireland
C.E.F , north and south also.
Any of these will be able to quote you for what you require.
The pillars and the card meters, not necessarily from the same manufacturer

Agree with everything you say. I took the time to bring my van to meeting at the proposed site so they could better understand our requirements. Outlined the fact that it is an extra cost to them that is unnecessary. I would imagine when they obtain quotes it will be seen to be to much of an additional cost. Dedicated and clearly signed parking with fresh water/ waste disposal is what I suggested to them was needed. They have started work on the site removing/ pruning trees and they are upgrading lighting. I'm happy that it has got the go ahead and they are considering other sites now. I'm based in Cavan Baguette

Firstly I agree with all of the comments that say there is no need for electrical points.

Not sure exactly what you want in terms of an EHU point, however the following UK based companies should be able to supply you with what you need either as components or as a complete module.

Caravan Park Electrical Services (CPES)
Maricer
Quickbit
JSG Metering Solutions
Hawkins Electrical
Rolec Services

Another possibility is to buy components and get a local electrician to assemble. Maybe Daffysparks might be interested.

Now Liam, it’s not the size of your equipment... it’s how you use it.

Whatever about a privately owned aire operator, I would imagine a Council would prefer motorhome owners to enjoy the services of the town they're in- i.e. spend money in bars, restaurants, shops and tourist amenities, as opposed to sitting in their van, watching tv/ charging devices/ cooking by electricity, with the electric heater on or even just using the aire for a night to charge the leisure battery; whether they're charged per kilowatt used or whatever.

For a council run aire a higher turnover of separate visitors would also be more "profitable" in terms of money spent in that town, than the same van there for more than two nights.

Fair play and best of luck to you dealing with Cavan Co Co GMAC. From what I've previously read here and elsewhere, they certainly seem a very progressive and motorhome friendly council in terms of their current practices and future plans.

Have to agree with this, but we all know what councillors are like, so look here: http://www.cpes.co.uk/
