Yes I know its early but im a bit of a planner. We have decided to take the van to France next year in July for 3 weeks. Van and 3 Passengers and a dog. Price in Euros
Irish Ferries are looking 1046
Celtic Ferries are looking 918
Craicers, In your vast experience when is the best time to book and get a good deal. ??????
I will be looking for past routes that some of you guys have taken so it will give me a good start. Do not want to pre book sites but it would be nice to get the lowdown on some good sites. But more interested in best time to book the ferry .
Ta very much]

In my experience its better to book as early as possible to get the type of cabin you want. The prices rarely vary by much but something to bear in mind is that if you pay the subscription fee to the site you will get a discount on the Celtic ferry prices, which will make that price even more competitive than Irish Ferries.

France is a large country and if you have an idea of where you would ideally like to end up then others can give ideas of stop overs/aires/sites that might suit.

Colin, I have always gone by Irish ferries and never found much difference in price if you wait until later in the year or early next year. As has already been said, the cabins can get booked up early. Both companies have released their prices quite early this year so more time for cabins to get booked up.

As for France, start getting the dog passport now as we have been told it can take several months to sort. We have never taken the dog as he couldn't stick the heat. If you like we could have a chat at the AGM weekend about nice places and good Aires too.

Mark,
Charlie has his Doggie Passport and all his jags are up to date. Plan is to sail on 13th July to Cherburg turn right out of the port and head toward Nantes and La Rochelle. Want to visit Oradour and just keep close to the coast. Not planning to do a lot of driving so maybe La Rochelle and Oradour is a far down the coast I want to go if the weather is good. ;-)
Depends on the weather. If it chucking it down then ill take a long drive down to where the sun is. :fgrin:
Hence the reason for not booking sites. I will book the first site somewere not too far from Cherburg just so I can get my bearings and set myself up. Cant really do Aires either as Natasha (14) needs to have stuff to do like swimming etc. Long way off I know but its worth planning.
Did price the crossing with Nutt Travel and they were coming in dearer than On-Line Prices. And those prices were with a cabin.

No worries. Good job on the dog passport.

We have done the west coast a few times over the years. Futurescope is a good park and prety much on your route. If everyone likes simulator type rides.

We could be on the same sailing but need to see what the girls are planning after first year at Uni.

Hi Colin, well done for taking the plunge and deciding on La Belle France next year . We"ve crossed a few times via the mainland but, this year, used Celtic to Cherbourg. Great service and, although the boat is not a luxury ferry, you sleep through the sailing so that"s not so important. So whatever you do GET A CABIN if you don"t/can"t it ain"t fun ...! With regard to sites, there are so many to choose from and they are all, pretty much, better than UK sites . I can recommend the area around Sables D"Olonne and Saint Jean des Monts, also Saint Gilles Croix de Vie, is a lovely town. The area is great for cycling with many, many miles of dedicated tracks through the woods. Don"t forget Mont Saint Michelle, worth a look although expensive if you eat there. Most sites have lots to do with a teenager (we"ve two :'( !) with pools, slides etc. The thing to do is try and speak the lingo" a bit, throw yourself into the "French" way and take it easy...
