leaving the Gas on is a big No No, Joe. since the Norman Athlantic disaster

https://www.google.com/search?…BzUrMTBHMM:

Just freeze a few bottles of water or Milk and leave in the fridge without opening it for the journey and it will be fine. we just buy our supplies in France now

I don’t think that’s allowed. I am the same, but traveling in June. We never bothered even with IF. We freeze about 4-5 two litre bottles of water and put them in the fridge. It works fine, but we only bring the bare essentials and do a shop when we land.

The loading process in Rosslare of last year was they came around the carpark and watched you turn off the gas and then gave you a notice to hang in the van to state you had turned it off.
Try the frozen water at home and you'll be surprised how well it works.
Put your fridge on for 24hours at home. then put the frozen bottles in and turn off the fridge. check it the next day.( I use frozen tubberware containers filled with water ) trow a few beers in just to prove it works.

I was planning on leaving my three way fridge on the battery setting for the ferry crossing with the help of frozen bottles of water as suggested above

Will your fridge work on battery without the engine running?
If so I'd recommend you follow my suggestion above for a 24hour test at home first to see how much battery you have left.
And please let us know how you get on. For others to follow.

There really is no need for the Battery, we went to St Nazaire on the ill fated Norman Atlantic only a couple of months before it went on fire and i think the sailing as around 25 hr and we had no problem, the important thing is not open the fridge on route.

Your are correct Sprinter, the fridge won’t work off the battery unless the ignition is on. Looks like it’s just going to be the frozen bottles of water

I have been going over every year for ten years or more and have never had a problem (even with 2 x 8 hr Liverpool-Dublin crossings.) As has been said fill fridge ,don't open the door ,put on gas while you are waiting in the queue at the ferry terminal ,and again as stated there are so many Lidl's and Aldi's in france now at similar prices to ours just shop when you get there.
