I have only used ACSI for the last 10 years. Their scheme touts about 3400 discounted sites outside of July August in two books the total cost being about €18. Their ID card is extra at about €5 which includes 3rd party insurance and the ability to be left at reception instead of a passport.
The Camping key card offers about 3000 discounted off peak sites and its card also has insurance and the ability to be left at reception. Costs about €12 but I am not sure if it can be bought through an Ireland or the Uk distributor or if it comes with a book.
I must say that rarely has a French campsite asked for or retained a card or a passport. In Spain over the last 2 years sites have photocopied my passport and turned down the ID card. I have not renewed my ACSI ID card this year but bought their new more focused France, Spain, portugal, Ireland and uk discount card and book.

you rarely hear of people talking about camping key, which is not to say that it is not a good scheme.
