Had an email from Wicklow Council yesterday regarding Motorhome parking, all very encouraging. I sent a load of info and then passed them onto Colin (Baguette) who is geographically better at advising them.

He has now spoken with them. All very encouraging but very early days.

If anyone looking for somewhere to stop in Wicklow. We like Moneylands near Arklow town, bit out if the way, nice shower block,they have a lovely cafe, and in summer time there is a swimming pool. Owners have a motorhome, may even be Craicers
€10 a night, EHU extra, extra for showers and swimming pool.

Wicklow Co. Council is actively looking for submissions from the general public in relation to local area development plans.
The current plan runs to 2021, as part of the central government National Development Plan.
Firstly each local area, or local election division will recommend a priority list of objectives to County Hall. These cover things like land rezoning , road and sewage development, tourism generation projects, job creations, and so on.
Out of all the local areas, County Hall will develop a new County Development Plan which will be sent forward to central Government for consideration and costings before been commissioned into the 2021/27 national development plan.

For those members who live outside Co. Wicklow, keep an eye on your local press for a similar submission to be done in your local council area.

Finally, local elections are due to be held in ROI this year, before summer hols. It probably the best time to hit home the point of mh overnight parking.

Wicklow Co. Co. are familiar with the Cobh set-up and see it as a model to base any developments in their own county.
Things are at an early stage and I understand discussions are planned with Cobh as part of an information gathering exercise.
The current focus is on Greystones but Wicklow town and Arklow have also been mentioned in particular, as places which could benefit significantly from tourist spending of the sector.

That's great Colin at last thy are starting to think about, maybe get some movement.

Presented at last nights (30/04/19) Municipal District Area monthly meeting.
Got a good reception and a very useful Q&A afterwards.

Some of the councillors were more enthusiastic than others but my overall impression was that some progress will probably happen in the direction of dedicated parking.
A discussion also took place about providing a services bay and a possible site was identified.
From a practical point of view, there are not many options available for a parking area due to the lack of suitable free space. Being a dormitory area for Dublin any off-street parking areas are in high demand by commuters looking for P+R facilities.
Overnight parking would not seem to be a problem but 24/48 hour parking (like Cobh) where all day occupancy of spaces takes place seems to be problematic.

The La Touche road carpark
( 53.145113,-6.060686 ) is the best place that already has facilities Toilet and water and was used regularly until they closed the barrier and sold the spaces to an post at a discount. ( A private company who could well afford to find parking for their vans out of the town ) The free P+R carpark is at the other end of the town. The main carpark is now full at €3 per day. There own carpark is empty all weekend .
And they still won't answer any of my email's.

I know lots of carparks are empty overnight and maybe weekends, but it really doesn't work if there is no parking available during the day when mh's arrive or locals are moaning if they lose parking to mh's staying all day.

Greystones could take a leaf out of the Dungarvan book and move the fence on the left in 10 metres and run a line of bays along HERE opposite the driving range. It would be away from passing traffic and quiet. I'm assuming it's municipal land.

I know and have looked at the space beside the driving range ,it is 1km from the station. not a whole lot of room after the range spaces and a tad isolated ,there is also an axis onto the rail line for maintenance.
This would be my second choice The Swimming pool the side next to the rugby club rarely fully occupied also 1km from the station .

This evening st 20.30 .from the arrows facing towards you to the fence is over 6mtr.from the kerb to the fence is 7mtr +
