Campsites within 250km of Cherbourg

 ·

Hi there we have booked our first campervan trip to France next summer ...Dublin to Cherbourg. 2 adults and 2 kids under 10. Would like to start researching campsites but was hoping some of you seasoned travellers may have some recommendations on where to go....Normandy versus Brittany ???
.Ideally the campsite we are looking for would be :

-max 250km from Cherbourg
- walking distance to a town with reasonable services... supermarket
- good for kids..ideally with pool
- cyclepath to town a bonus

Perhaps a tall order but all tips welcome. We are going mid Aug 2019.

Thanks in advance.

Lots and lots of places fit that bill. The yelloh village range of sites are superb.... google it.
PM me your name address and I’ll aend you the 2018 ACSI book, won’t be any good for discounts but it will show you what’s available, show you the facilities, have phone numbers and GPS coordinates.
May assist your planning.

For an all inclusive luxury package, it would be the https://www.camping-castels.co.uk
While they are expensive by Irish standards, they offer something for every guest.
No harm in pricing them, and comparing to other places.
In fairness, the majority of French campsites are priced according to their facilities.
Don't be afraid to try some of the aires. Campercontact is a good honest app for both campsites and aires.
We travel with an 11 and 12 year old.

We stayed at this place this year, https://www.sandaya.co.uk/our-campsites/cote-de-nacre not far from Cherbourg easy drive to St Aubin Sur Mer.
It gets busy in August but is a well situated campsite, nice town and an easy walk to the beach.
We enjoyed it a lot, much better than the run down place up the road in Bernieries sur Mer and the same price.

Thanks for all the very informative replies...I will be busy researching !

One other question...is it best to book all our campsites in advance ( a mix of yelloh, aires and municipal ones) as we will be there in August or can we freeflow a bit ? Not even sure if you can book Aires ? Sorry new to this game so its a learning curve for us.

Have a look at campingcarpark.com there are a new system of village Aire's
That can be booked and entry is by a card system that can be topped up at the entry point .they have an app with maps etc.
They seem to be taking g over small village Aire's. and putting in EHU outlets with a service point at the side.

The large commercial sites tend to be very busy during July and August.
However if you are smart a 3 or 4 night, midweek deal can be picked up.
Saturday is the normal start date.

We love Yelloh Villages (also Flower campsites.
Last year the one in Talmont St Hilaire was no longer in ACSI 2018 book, but we went to it....every year a new improvement on what was brilliant already, they still charged us the same price as previous years.
This is the campsite
https://www.sandaya.fr/nos-campings/le-littoral....
not sure why it didn’t come up as a yellow village campsite.

Yelloh Village campsites here at https://m.yellohvillage.co.uk

We use the yelloh campsites ourselves and find them great to deal with,we have the loyalty card which is available free from their website, handy for a free night whenever you have collected up enough points. 8-)

Nice one, I'll keep an eye on this thread. Just booked our first trip to France also.

After going to Wales last year and experiencing a Park Dean campsite, I know now what I want to avoid.

We have found that you need to head about 4 hours from the boat, to find more peaceful campsites, if you get my drift.
For reviews, Dutch family comments are brutally honest and a great indicator especially if you are travelling will little people. Dutch people generally like a upfront priced package, with no added extra cost been added on site.
Don't let yourself get stuck on the availability of English, we all muddle along with a bit of effort and a smile.
I have seen kids playing soccer with about 6 languages been spoken but it didn't stop them.
Malcolm
