I have been informed by our vet although our 2 dogs have full pet passports and their rabies injections are up to date , and have travelled to the continent for at least 13 years, they now require new blood tests and a certificate showing antibodies at a cost of £120 each dog
they will then have to wait 3 months after results before they can travel
in the result of a no deal brexit the pet passport scheme will be scrapped

It’s only for Brexit dogs !
the UK pet passport is the only one affected.....
Maybe the dogs need to get an Irish passport ?.... seriously... especially frequent travelers.

No doubt our shower will find a way to incorporate a large fee for dogs travelling once it becomes the norm across the border/water

Get your dog chipped in ROI might solve that problem

not sure how getting the dogs chipped in ROI would solve the problem as they are already chipped on a uk pet passport ?? if it was possible i would

Don’t think you need to re-chip, take to ROI vets and transfer ownership over to ROI address and have details changed on FIDO. That way your animal becomes registered in a EU member state.

Does anyone know what the situation will be going to ROI from NI with dogs? we travel across on a regular basis.

I don’t think people even know what it means for a person going over the border. Let alone a dog. Nobody knows nothing 😒

I wonder if dogs are entitled to dual chips?

Alot of the veterinary regulations are compatible north and south.
These were harmonised after the foot and month of 2001. Futher more, NI got it BSE free status at the same time as the south. NI livestock health controls were seperated from the Uk ministry of agriculture.
With animals, disease control is the main reason for individual tagging or chipping along with an ID card.
My opinion is that currently we have a 32 counties animal health status, which I believe will be kept in place.
For animal movements across the Irish sea, that is a completely different story.

As a NI resident we have our Irish Passport application underway, does anyone know if by liaising with a ROI vet we can get our dog, who has a valid UK Pet Passport, a ROI Pet Passport using our NI details ??

Any relevant info greatly appreciated.

Any hassle then just register the dog at an ROI address, pet passport is standalone anyway...

If you register in ROI you will also need an ROI dog licence
