Good news for anyone making a Severn Crossing it is now free into Wales , which is free both ways as they used to charge double on the way out whether you came back or not. The arrangement when it was built was to pay until the cost was recouped. Before that was a car ferry to Aust and any thing bigger had to go up to Gloucester and down the other side.
