Hi folks. We are planning to drive up through Spain from Cadiz through Valencia and Salamanca ending in Santander. Looking on the various parking sites there seem to be very few service areas on the way. Am I missing something obvious? We just need the water services. Any other general advice welcome! Thanks. The Silver Route is from Gijon and running through León and on to Salamanca and all the way to Saville. It's the A66/N630 all the way.
The route was recommended to me by a chap from Gijon area I met down by Malaga a few years ago, he said it was a lovely scenic drive with loads of places to stop overnight along the route.

Stops on your way up

There are loads of free Aires with facilities for filling and emptying. Some are really easy to get to off the A66 in small villages. Monesterio and Fuenta de Santos are not far north of Seville then there's Zafra. After that not much until Caceres. Great aire but don't know if they still have free electric there. Just south of Salamanca there's an aire at Carbajosa de la Sagrada with facilities. If you have time stop off in Zamora. It's like Salamanca without the tourists and the parking us great but without facilities for filling and emptying . Quite a few places to fill and empty near the motorway but w good place to overniggt is Aguilar de Campoo. Hop this helps

Stayed HERE El Puerto de Santa María last spring. It's a grand spot with a convenient hydrofoil ferry into the centre of Cadiz for a few Euro, if the sea conditions are bad there's a replacement coach by road running to the same schedule.

I don't know about you but I'm lost Cadiz is on the south-west of Spain near Gibraltar and Valencia is about halfway up the east coast nearly 800Km apart.
Do you have a particular reason to go to Valencia? the only reason for going through would be if you are coming down the E15 motorway from the Barcelona area.

In Spain follow the truck parking and carry a 5 Itr water can and in the Service areas you can nearly always find water. Or in the supermarkets there are a good assortment of 5,10 and larger at a reasonable price.

We’re on the flip of your intended route.
We left Santander this morning and down as far as Tordesillas tonight. Loads of stops en route. Intending going from here via Salamanca / Caceres / Seville and possibly turn right across the A49 for the Algarve and back via Cadiz / Gibraltar before taking the costal route up to Alicante area for Christmas...... that’s the plan, but plans we make seem to grow a life of their own !

Yep..... that was our stop last night.....
Ate in the restaurant... hake in green sauce was to die for and a bottle of rioja hit the mark.
Great stop and a nice town for a dander round.
