Social media removal.

In a world of social media, Motorhomecraic has decided to close down all Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media groups.

Rather than using social media, we will continue to spend time on our website where information is easily found by other Motorhomers and not locked in a closed group on social media, "Information for Motorhomers on the Internet"

Our Facebook experiment has brought out exactly what we thought it would.

Motorhomes are for travel & friendships. That is what Motorhomecraic represents. The meeting of people, the information sharing and above all the Craic.

At Motorhomecraic we prize, above all else, your company at our meets and our events. Our focus is on personal, face-to-face relationships. No matter how great social media proclaims to be, it can never replace those priceless moments.

As a website with 30 million views, the upkeep and management of our social media accounts is time consuming with no real reward for our members. Information is lost in seconds, repeated questions get asked over and over.

Meeting people, sharing experiences and sharing online information is what Motorhomecraic is about. Motorhomecraic is the biggest resource of information for Motohomers, visiting or touring Ireland, whether they are indigenous Motorhomers or are here for a brief time, the information is available here on motorhomecraic.com

This decision is not up for debate, it is a final decision. Our Facebook page will remain for announcements only.

We will always continue to promote the Motorhome Parking Ireland App which we believe is the best way for Motorhomers, when touring, to enjoy Ireland using the latest technology.

Same here, but a lot of people prefer to use face book and are members of a number of fb groups, I am just wondering will they just ignore mhc and continue using the other groups? I don't have a facebook account but mrs Chausson lets me have the odd peek on her account as long as I don't like or comment on anything. I have seen names that were on mhc in the past crop up with comments on a number of groups, especially the Ladys. having said that I am sure Ally and the team have done their homework. and I have no complaints, Go for it!

No harm at all. FB is a terrible addiction! I do think Instagram is good for pictures etc though.

Heard this argument many times and I have considered it a lot. My answer is this.........

That affects us how, exactly? doesn't affect me or you on motorhomecraic.com - I'll not go into the reasons why I have came to that conclusion as I have posted it many times on here.

How does it affect them? when they search on the problem they have with their motorhome, it won't be facebook that comes up in a search engine with the answer, it will be a fully search engine friendly website and forum like Motorhomecraic.com

I have been on the internet from the begining, have seen it change a lot, I may be wrong in this decision but it wasn't taken lightly by moderators and admin and the vote that took place a year ago. The decisions that have been very bad for Motorhomecraic have been taken by other people against my judgment.

I think this is the right one for Motorhomers in Ireland, the future will decide whether I was right or not. :D

If it was good enough for Wetherspoons it's good enough for us ;)

As far as personal FB accounts go, there is probably a place for them in this day and age. I wouldn't be of the mind to dismiss them totally even though there are a lot of people out there that would. Possibly pack mentality, but each to their own. But for the likes of organisations such as MHC, there will always be numptys that will try to put them down for their own nefarious reasons. This is why I think it's best to go with the opinions of the office bearers on this forum. Time will tell but before FB craic was there, this forum was highly successful and always will be.

Cannot have Bakebook. I can't see how it would harm motorhome craic not having a presence on it as Ally has said. This forum is a superb searchable knowledge base and long may it continue in that way.

I still think we will loose a few to the fb groups, they are an addiction. Do I think Ally is making the right decision? Absolutely! I found when posts I was making on MHC started appearing on FB, I started pulling back on posting on the site, especially any topic that shouldn’t be shared with the non Motorhome community, I even edited my profile to remove personal information. The site is far better off aligning it self with Motorhome clubs and other bodies that have the future of motorhoming in Ireland and abroad at the top of their agenda.

We already have and we will lose more. We are however gaining some from there whom are sick of its useless format for information. People have Facebook devices now and that's mostly all they use on those devices, I'm well aware of this. I however, tend not to be a sheep and go, where I think, is the better direction for MHC.

Said it many many times, Facebook is good for idle chit chat and keeping in touch with family and friends, that's it. They are going to end up with a forum format, it's been heading that way for sometime, it has too, it can't keep up with the information and popularity. Corporate owned forum formats have been around for a long time. I know what happens to most of them.

I'll shut up now, most are not interested in my views on this subject, maybe I should start a blog as I could go on and on about the demise of what was the internet due to Facebook. 😀

Glad you think I am making the right decision, I certainly do.

I withdrew from several motor-caravan sites on Facebook because of the typical social-media heartless and impersonal reactions I was finding.

My blog had an automatic notification to Facebook and one blog about my travels in France mentioned a visit to Lourdes.
I was not impressed and said so and why. I thought my comments where fair, reasonable and thoughtfully observed but.... the reaction from several Facebook readers was astonishing in its viscous intolerance and "How dare you!" comments.

I'm forced to use social media for publicity for my work but have reduced that hugely and sales have not been effected at all.
Facebook, Twitter et-all are over hyped and ineffective.
What sells my books is the same thing that has always sold books - word of mouth recommendations among family and friends face to actual flesh face.

I've been having a look at your books, was about to start with the trilogy, but should I begin earlier?

For Davids book continue...

What a beautiful breath of fresh air being away from FB. It took 5 moderators/admins to keep an eye on it for absolutely no reward for our members.

Ok, there is a bit of confusion out there.

We closed our Facebook GROUP - not our Facebook PAGE - it can still be found here and will be used for announcements, only admin can create a new post. https://www.facebook.com/motorhomecraic/

----------------------------
Why would we need a group? we already have one here motorhomecraic.com :)

That's a better idea. I assume the page is in the public domain, can be viewed far away.
No more policing posts, which will hand back a lot of time that will be better used elsewhere.

Social media is OK for announcements but not to have a conversation or anything constructive.

Good call I'd say.
