Calais -change of attitude to motorhomes?

Recently I was returning home after a wonderful holiday in France. I arrived too early for Eurotunnel so decided to go into Calais and have something to eat. I went to the large car park Aire where there is no facilities.
I was sitting having my tea when there was a knock on the motorhome door. It was a guy looking for 7€ for parking. I explained that I was not staying the night and had stopped for my tea. He was having none of it and could not speak any English. He ranted and raved, was arrogantmand rude and proceeded to phone the
local Police. I heard him give my number and details of my motorhome. I continued to enjoy my tea. I was there for about 2 hours and no one came.

Calais always welcomed motorhomes and I stayed at this aire on numerous occasions in the past and never had to pay. This chargemismthe same as the Aire down at the sea front.

I was just wondering if anyone else, found the same this year?

Calais is real dodgy with all the goings on with illegals trying to get to the UK. I would never stay there any more.
If I had too much time to kill to book-in and didn't want to visit Citi Europe I would stop out in Gravlines or Grand-Fort Phillippe

Just wondering if he actually rang at all or just pretended to. Sounds like a possible scam to me.

No it does cost €7 per night to park in the designated areas in Calais, but for a short stop I dont know if you have to pay or not. We went to KFC and got something to eat on the way home and were still early for our sailing even with getting the dog through customs, but we just parked in line for the boat and relaxed.

Hi,
It's just a scam ,,,,,and well known, Bet he had no ID ,,,he was phoning no one and I wonder could he even speak French. Lots of nicer places to park and much safer ,,,do not park overnight as many UK Motorhomes have been broken into over the last year in that area,
Regards,
Brendan

Brendan,
If it was a scam lots of folk fell for it. He probably collected from about 40 motorhomes.
