Totally forgot to do a mini blog on our trip to the uk, so let me do it now.
Got the ferry from Rosslare to Pembroke late, nice crossing arrived and were disembarked by 1.15.
Easy enough to navigate from the port to the a477 then onto the a40 and onto the M4 and the M5.
All roads easy to access and traffic was light.
After leaving the M5 we headed towards Tintagel to stay Saturday night. Found a carpark up the town and the cost for the overnight stay was 6.50. 3 pounds for the day, 3.50 for the overnight. No services, but it is just a car park. Lots of vans and plenty of room. Walk out of the car park and you are in the middle of the town. Spar that opens from 6am till 10, plenty of pubs and lots of places to eat. We never got to the castle, maybe next time.
Headed off Sunday morning towards Port Isaac, the location for Doc Martin, Sues favourite programme.
Only about a 40 minute drive, and arrived at the car park early and loads of room. If I remember correctly, it was about 3 pounds to park for the day, but no overnighting allowed.
Done a tour of the locations for Doc Martin, an extra was our guide, and all in all well worth 16.00 pounds each for it. Had the obligatory cream teas with buttered scones and jam, and I still drool when I think of them.
Left there about 2.30 and headed to Blue Anchor further up the coast. Theres a pub there called the Smugglers Inn, so we dropped in for a pint and to see if there was anywhere to park apart from the Caravan club site.
Told by the owner to shag off we weren’t welcome.
Only joking, lovely man, told us to park just off the car park on a nice level spot between 2 mobile homes and have a beer and he would be happy. We missed the food, which was a pity because it sounded tasty. In the end we drank a lot and he was happy, and we were happy. Everyone was happy.
Up early the next morning, had something to eat and headed off to Stratford Upon Avon.
Again, roads were great, no problems. Arrived in Stratford and found the Riverside Caravan park. There are car parks to stay in that are cheap, but we wanted to spoil ourselves. 22 pound for the night, inc ehu, showers, and all the usual MH amenities. Lovely bar and restaurant on site overlooking the Avon. Walked over to the water taxi that’s on site, and for 2 quid it meanders up the Avon for about 10 to 15 minutes. Absolutely great way to travel to the town.
The town is beautiful. Loads of good pubs and eateries so we indulged. Decided to stay a second night and do the tour bus the next day and see all the Shakespeare houses and museames.
Got drunk.
Next day, up early and headed towards Wrexham and the boat club for an overnighter. Couldn’t find it, and we weren’t really in the humour of looking, so stopped at Plassey Caravan and camping park. Again I think the cost was about 20/25 quid for the night inc all the usual amenities including EHU. Also had a pool there, Sue went for a swim, and I got things sorted.
Nice stopover. Out the country, but has bar, restaurant, tea rooms, gift shop, games areas for kids, grocery shop. Met a nice couple from Liverpool and had a few beers with them. Level sites, lots of water taps, drainage and cassette emptying areas.
Next day we decided to chill out and not rush off anywhere. We hung around till about 12 and then headed to Caernafon. Journey took about 2 hrs, give or take, so we arrived about 2 ish. We were going to park on the foreshore road, but after talking to the man in charge of the car park at the castle, we got to stay the night for a fiver.
Took a walk around Caernafon, got a coffee and watched the world go by. After a while we walked around the castle and found a pub called the Anglesey Arms around the corner from the car park. Spent the afternoon and evening sitting at the harbour wall, in beautiful sunshine, listening to an assortment of bands entertaining us. Best day of the trip. Absolutely stunning views, great food and great company.
Decided the next day to head toward Holyhead and find somewhere to park overnight. Found a little seaside town called Rhosneigr so decided for 20 quid INC ehu to stay on site TY-HEN. Bit of a walk back to the town, but we found a pub called the Glan-Neigr and had a great night. Hooked with a gang of locals and had a singsong. Very bad idea. I suffered the next day.
Next day we got the boat, albeit 9 hrs late.
Still great trip and looking forward to going France/Spain next year.
