Advice needed please - Lunar Champ motorhome

Hi everyone, my first post. My wife and I are looking to purchase a motorhome for the first time, and the idea really appeals to us. After much looking, we decided upon a particular one -a 2008 Lunar Champ, and we're about to purchase.

However, I have learned today that both the Lunar Company and the Belgian parent company no longer exist. As a first timer I have no idea how much of a problem this may be in the future if we need parts or repairs etc. Perhaps we are better waiting for something else to become available. Any advice would be most welcome

Hi Marybarry

Welcome to the craic.

I would not be able to assist with the Lunar questions but I am sure someone on here will be able to.

I am not sure what you are looking for in a van but I am aware of one which is about to come on the market.
It is a 6 birth dethleffs with just about everything fitted. I know there is only about 10,000 miles on it and is about 3 years old.

Feel free to post here or PM me if it might be of interest. I can put you in touch with the owners.

There would be a number of things to consider if you really have your heart set on the lunar, the main one is use the fact that the manufacturer is no longer in business to try to push the price down. Try to find out which dealer used to be the main agent not only here in Ireland but also in England as they may have some parts available. The engine and chassis will be easy enough to repair/maintain as they are fairly common across all makes, they are all a commercial van at heart.

My worry would be the availability of the little things like rear light clusters which can be broken so easily thus creating a demand from all Lunar owners.

At the end of the day it's your money and your choice and the likelyhood of needing specific parts is probably slim, but unless it's a bargain I personally would look at other van options. There are many variations to layouts across all makes and it pays to find the right one for your needs, so go to as many dealers and look at as many as you can irrespective of price after all it's the layout you are after, then start the search for that layout in the price range you can afford.
