Crit'Air Sticker for France

 ·
Posted: 30.07.2018  ·  #1
My Crit'Air sticker arrived in the post today (exactly 3-weeks from order).

It is roughly the same size as the old tax and Mot disc. Rather than making it a permanent fixture, I have laminated the sticker and will use the windscreen ticket clip to hold it whilst in France.

It is a permanent feature , it is non transferable your van reg is on it , stick it on your lower right hand windscreen and forget about it

I don't know Dave, We have replaced two windscreens in our Motorhome since we bought it, there might be merit in laminating the sticker alright.
Talking about the stickers, I never got around to getting one and it is a bit late now, do you think a fellow could chance going without it or should I register and go without the sticker?

Yep unless you're going to big cities , I'd say there's less than 20% with one at least when I was there May/June

The Crit'Air areas are not limited to cities, they cover large areas of countryside.

I see that from the above map, have anyone been inspected or restricted from traveling? How do you know you are not allowed to travel, have you to check some website or what? Looks like you would want to be heading back to the boat a day or so early Incase you were grounded. If this is enforced properly I am not sure it is worth the hassle of entering those zones, but it is hard to avoid them going south.

Talking to owners of a new Mh with a crit sticker and commented that we haven’t seen many crit stickers. They were in France earlier in year in their last MH, they were stopped, they apologised and got let off with a warning, so they were making sure they had it when going to France later this month.

When I said cities I was talking about enforcement not actually needing one ,as I said in May/June I estimated about 20% of cars and Vans had them

Ordered today...only 4.21euro. Easy to do...will see how long it will take to get here...like the idea of lamination as we only need it when travelling..just make sure they can see when in Europe.

We went down through France in June. Went through a lot of the areas where this is required. Stopped in a few shopping centers to have a look and so very few French cars and vans with it displayed. Way less than 20%. Closer to 10%. I’d say if you have it displayed in a laminate cover you will be grand. As long as you have it, and displayed, it’s want to be a very pedantic cop to do you

I ordered one Today too,
Can someone answer this, How do you know if you are restricted from traveling in a region when you get there? is there signs in place saying what stickers are not allowed or what?

Is it in English Dave? Do you need wifi for it?

I don't know if it is worth the hassle taking the Motorhome anymore to France, especially if you are only going for a couple of weeks, between the price of Diesel, tolls and now the possibility of not been able to get to booked destinations on time because of possible driving restrictions.

It’s only at certain peak times, of high pollution. I don’t think it’s something to get hung up on. Just my opinion. I certainly wouldn’t let it stop me traveling over there

Why? The only cost a few Euro and they're supposed to be permanently fixed.
There is obviously a good reason why they're designed to self-destruct if an attempt is made to remove one.

Outside a green zone, none. Inside it..... the guillotene 😂
I think a fine up to €365 if you are not allowed at that time. Not sure what, if no restriction is in place and you are stopped without a cert

This is from the RAC website.
What happens if I don't buy one?

Fines of between €68 and €135 (between £59 and £117) are in place for vehicles that don't display an appropriate sticker and/or for those vehicles that are driven in set zones when they shouldn't.

The RAC understands that around 1 in 10 French vehicles are too old to get a sticker – with certain older models not even assigned a category. These cars are not permitted to drive in Paris between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Friday.

Models registered before 1997, motorbikes and scooters from before June 2000, and trucks and buses from before 2001 are the main offenders in terms of emissions.

Some info which may explain why we have not had any problems with the clean air regulations.
a 2016 report from the World Health Organisation found that the Paris suburb of Pantin, separated from the city by the ever-clogged peripherique ring-road, was the place in France with the worst air quality.

But if you’re looking for clean air, you need to head for France’s smaller towns with - you’ve guessed it - less people, less traffic and less industrial activity.

The top destinations according to the L'Express study are Cherbourg off the windy coast of Normandy and Limoges, Périgueux and Roanne in central France, which all registered less than 5 days of dirty air in a year in the Express ranking.

Air pollution is believed to be the main cause of some 48,000 deaths each year in France, with over 47 million French people exposed to a level of air pollution particles that is considered to be unsafe by the WHO.

France is one of nine EU countries which faces legal action from Brussels for failing to tackle air pollution.

Paris, which has recently implemented a number of measures to improve its air quality such as car-free days, has been recently called out by the European Commission for going above safe levels of air pollution.

I have the sticker but it is not much use if I don't know if I am restricted at any given time. Just curious have any Craicer been restricted from traveling in any area since the stickers have been introduced?

When we were parked in the aire at puy du fou, which have at least 500 mh parked. After a hoof around the site ,I saw very little stickers on display.
After 3 weeks of touring, Brittany, Vendeen, Loire and Normandy regions, no one stop us or asked about the lack of stickers on the windscreen.
