motorhome association meeting with MLA

Mark and myself have just returned from Stormont after a meeting with an M.L.A. reference motorhome issues in the area. The meeting was organised by the Motorhome Association who lobby extensively for facilities for motor homes. The issue was raised reference the abundance of height restriction barriers and its negativity on tourism in the area. Overnight parking was another issue raised and a full and frank discussion took place. There will be no further updates.

well,,,,,,
apparently someone is offended by the post about the meeting in Stormont, even though i read the article to the chairperson before posting. As usual no name of who is offended or why?

I wont be taking part in any other meetings or dealings with the association if this is the pettyness involved.

Was it the post on here ie the first one on this topic, or a post on another site?

As far as I know all you have been doing is to promote the use and acceptance of motorhomers, which to me is a credible and worthwhile thing and I only wish I had the time and patience to do it.

Mind you with the small minded attitude which some people have on this island, I am not surprised, they expect everyone to throw rocks at each other and are not prepared to put the past into a history book.

What's the grief, we need all the effort possible to promote mh parking and free circulation.
A lot is being said while at the same time saying nothing, real politician stuff.
Why take down the anti hight barrier petition it seems like a good idea in the 'fight against hight' here in Ireland.
AFAIK the Motorhome Association, which seems to be an umbrella organisation representing the motorhome tourism sector, is doing good work and putting in a lot of effort for us all, North and South.

Well from what you are saying about the petition it sounds as though it is someone who has a vested interest in motorhomes being unable to park anywhere but proper camp sites. Is there any reason why someone who is not a member of any club or association couldnt start a similar petition?

I had been thinking about joining some sort of club for motorhomes, I didn't join the caravan club when I had the caravan as they didn't have enough sites here in Ireland to justify it as well as them not liking Hobby caravans, but with that sort of pettyness I will certainly not be parting with my money when they can't let a petition run. If the thing only had around 20 or so signatures at the end then fair enough there is no interest, but it should be given the time to see what it acheives and what people think.

Am I missing something here, there seems to be a lot not being said. I contribute to a number of fora but subscribe to only one of them. Not being a subscriber to this forum am I only getting access to some of the posting on this thread.
It's a free country and hopefully a free forum, trolling aside, why did you feel compelled to take down the petition.

FWIW, I am a member of two clubs, one being The Caravan Club on which I am a centre committee member, among my friends are Hobby caravan and motorhome owners, 'though what difference that should make is beyond me.

When I enquired about various services offered by the caravan club I was made to feel like a "traveller" when I said about the Hobby, I enquired on a couple of CC sites about availability and when I said it was a Hobby being towed with a pick up they suddenly were not too keen on me arriving. The insurance scheme also would not quote for insuring the van. This was my experience with the CC and it left me with an aversion to paying for a club, it may be that it was a one off, but it was my experience and as such I was comparing this experience to the apparent pettyness within the MCCNI. The sort of in-fighting that is going on over some people raising valid points and issues with our politicians leaves me with no regrets over not paying to join. I dont want to be part of anything that shoots someone down for spending their own precious time championing in my eyes a good cause.

Off topic here but are you sure ?
Top right hand corner of each post in a thread is the post number.

Can you look at this thread and tell me which numbers are missing please. As far as I am aware you should be able to read all posts in this thread. I will confirm this withy on his return but it would be good to know which posts are missing to you.

Thanks you.

It isnt the mccni who are being petty or questioning things. I posted on their news page as I am the webmaster for them.

Regarding clubs etc, apparently the motorhome assoc do not want people knowing their work or mentioning meetings etc, even though I got clearance from the chairperson.

The petition only had 30 signatures, but I was being hassled by others ref was it Ireland, Northern Ireland, what it was to be used for etc.
It was simply set up for anyone to access and make use of the stats, opinions etc as they see fit regardless of club affiliation or point of view.

I will just enjoy my van and take no further part in the meetings etc.
You do not need clubs etc when you ask a pub or premises can you park for the night, anyone who knows me knows I have never been refused parking either north or south, and can enjoy our wee country and support local shops and traders.

Don't know about being off topic, I was referring to the topic being discussed. To me the thread seemed not to be contiguous so I thought that perhaps I was not seeing all what was being posted. However, having checked the post numbers, which I hadn't noticed before, they are contiguous <_<
That's all

Separately, 'the Motorhome Association' has been referred to here, who or what is the motorhome association, is it an NI club a RoI club or an All Ireland club or is it a representative body of the different clubs and the 'trade'. I had thought it is a representative body lobbying both North and South to promote our common interests.
Perhaps someone who knows might enlighten those who don't.

all clubs play an important part in the use of motorhomes, rallies, parking, other issues and people may join one club over another due to personal choice.
they are also free to roam as an individual as the notion takes them.
please dont use this item to harass any club or organisation, if you have a query or concern contact the relevant person in the club.

ps

Baguette, on this topic - what forum do you subscribe to, interested to know why you would subscribe to one and not this one?

Forgive me, but, in what way do you consider I am harassing what club or what organisation. If you read my posts you will see I am asking for more information about issues raised and seeking clarification of postings made by others, in what way is this harassment.

As regards The Motorhome Association, I have been unable to come up with anything trying to google it. Again, has anyone sufficient knowledge about it to answer the questions I raised in my earlier post, I do believe they are very active in lobbying on both sides of the border, are they a few self financing individuals or in receipt of subscriptions from the clubs and trade or is it a club financed by members. Surely someone on this forum must know the answers.

To answer Dierdra's question about my my depth of membership of other fora, I subscribe if I feel the return is worth the expenditure. So far as regards this forum, I am delighted to be able to contribute as a 'free member' and I will pay its sub if and when I need the added benefits it will bring. As it stands my visits in themselves add value to the content and to the advertising value the site holds for it advertisers and it creator.

There are a few member's on here, myself included who know who the Motorhome Association are, but as the Association read this website and are registered members hopefully they will come on and explain who they are and how they can be contacted etc.

I think this topic has been exhausted and has thrown up several questions people want answers to.
These questions have their own importance etc and warrant their own space.
Feel free to create new topics as required.

I therefore have closed this topic.
