M6 Toll or not ?

Hi folks,
Heading across from Holyhead to Silverstone next week for the Formula 1.
(Assuming the boat is going, but thats another story)

Should I be using the M6 toll road, or not ? (It's weekdays, if that makes a difference)
Google maps only shows 5 minutes difference in time, but I seem to rememeber something about the toll being well worth it for the time/traffic saving. Maybe it depends on time of day, & rush hours, and all that ?

Having said that, I'm not in any mad panic for time, but I'm not that fond of busy motorway traffic either.

Answers on a postcard please, to .....

Thanks,
Declan

Would use the toll road between 0600 and 1000 and 1600 to 1900, otherwise normal M6. There is very little (under 25%) traffic on the toll road compared to the normal M6

Firstly have you been to the GP at Silverstone before?
M6 is a problem waiting to happen and when it does, which is far to often it’s a nightmare. Toll is much better.
Back to silverstone it’s a very windy spot very easy to get sun burnt or very cold if the weather is bad. The official sites are ok. But water points and black waste can be a long walk.
On site showers toilets very very busy.
Enjoy I wish I could take the week off.

When you get out of Holyhead why not consider pointing your van towards Shrewsbury and Kidderminster cutting out the whole of the West Midlands altogether. I live in England and I can tell you that if you hit Wolverhampton and Birmingham area at the wrong time you can be in a very long and slow traffic jam.

See a bit of Wales instead.

Thanks for the info folks.

Will probably use the m6 toll.

I'd probably get lost in Wales. Wouldn't be the first time !

Have been to Silverstone F1 many moons ago, but never camped there. Went to the WEC there for the last 3 years but again not camping.
We have weekend grandstand tickets and heading over on Thursday, back Monday. Just booked dadford road campsite and have hookup for weekend too. Supposed to be in the quieter end of the site, but im sure it will still be very busy.
Can't wait !

I always use the M6 Toll as I hate going around Birmingham. It’s well worth the money in my opinion.

Crossed over on Seatruck Warrenpoint to Heysham day sailing last Week and followed my old route to Colchester ,Down M6 to Stoke and then left to A50 to M1. Great until A50/M1 junction ,big hold ups as the whole junction being reworked ,then down to A14/A1junction and the same again. Long tails of slow moving traffic. Will be looking for a different way back. Must say thanks to Seatruck staff for the way we were looked after, first class service

Used the M6 toll at Easter. Think it was £11 as a MH is the same charge as an HGV :-|

Well the M6 is a disaster. Lots and lots of roadworks.
The m6 toll was the only section without roadworks.
Came back a different way. Up m40 and m42, a5 up to a55. Probably took longer time but it was all moving along nicely.
Silverstone was great. Campsite was huge. Have never seen so many mh and caravans in one place, not to mention the tents !
