Sun canopy

Another awnings type question, but has anyone tried this type of product?



It’s more canopy than an awning. I’m looking for something quick and easy to pitch and light weight but sturdy. At least as sturdy as a gazebo anyway. My concern would be the depth though. It is 3 meters. Seems a little excessive. I would prefer 2.5 or less.

I saw a guy using one like that on a V/W in Killaloe, he had it connected over the van and out over the rear open doors and later he turned it to also cover the rear and sliding doorway.

Well I ordered one from Charles Camping along with a magnetic driveaway awning attachment. The kit has arrived. I have not tried it out yet. Only got as far as trying the magnetic strip which is just not a runner. My roof is to irregular and not flat enough to accept it. Pity. It’s a nice idea and I am sure would work well on the right roof.

This leaves me on the look out for some awning rail c-channel that I can glue to my roof. Any suggestions for where to get this in Galway city area?

I tried out my Outwell sun canopy a couple of times now. It is just what I wanted. Can pitch it in under 10 mins and it packs away neatly. In the end I just glued a c rail to the van. You don’t drive away from this thing so there is no figure of eight piece. It has not been tested in windy conditions but so far so good.

Do you think it qualifies for an awning charge at campsites? It is technically a canopy and only touches down at 2 points plus a couple of guy ropes.
