Wild Boar in France

My son works for one of the big camping site companies in France and yesterday he went with his dog to explore some old war caves in a Forrest near Berny-Rivière, just north of Paris.
While he was enjoying his walk, miles from anywhere and anyone, he heard a snorting sound behind him, on turning round he was about to be attacked by a very angry female wild boar. The attack lasted almost half an hour with the boar making contact with him many times.
He spotted a high fence and managed to clamber over it with his dog, it was clear that the boar was attacking him and not his dog.
So if anyone is planning a walk in the wilds in France, please be assured that these wild animals are now considered a serious problem in France and they have regular culling periods. Google Wild boar in France and you will be enlightened.

Enjoy your walks

Thanks for sharing.
I've been interested in this for a while, but didn't realise these beasts were predatory..

I took a photo of one last month, dead, after being knocked down on the shores of Loch Ness in Scotland.

A Bulgarian friend confirmed it was a wild boar.

YouTube videos. Suggest they only attack you if cornered, but this post suggests we all need to take care.

He is fine thanks Ally, it was trying to bite him, when he got back to the camp and told his tale he learned that two cyclists had been attacked the day before. I think i’ll Stay in the van.

She was probably protection piglet's, they can be quite vicious in such situations if you come across ground rooted up ,or wollowing holes best to give them a wide berth.

Seen the hunters in their orange hazard vests beside the forest roads waiting for a shot at them. I'll bet they taste nice with apple sauce and some other trimmings

I have eaten wild boar in Bulgaria. We were on a wine tasting trip and the host told us it was wild boar we were eating at the meal and he had just shot it. We all thought it was pig and he was telling a story. To prove it he went outside and brought in its pelt/skin with the blood still on it. Needless to say a few people put their knives and forks down

You don't have to go to France.
However they end up in the countryside, there have been confirmed reports of Wild Boar living wild in counties Kilkenny, Roscommon, Tipperary, Wexford and Wicklow. While it is believed that the animals are not fully established yet, nine piglets were reportedly seen in Co Wicklow.
Plus there is 158 of them often seen around Dublin ,unfortunately not always at the same time.
